Just joined the forum today. I've been feeling a little nostalgic about Blair Witch these last 2 days. I'm even thinking about picking up the games since I might be getting a gaming PC soon. I like forums so I thought I'd see if there actually was one for this movie (Which would probably be an interesting community of people. But hopefully it's not too dead...?) For my intro, I'm an oldschool survival horror video game enthusiast but play other things of course. Like comics and animations, drawing, hanging with my friends. Etc. Nice to meet every 5 people still alive here probably. Hi Hi. I'll be the first to say hello.

Since you mentioned the BW games, they need a bit of setting up first, so if you do actually get around to picking them up, feel free to send me a message if you run into the same problems I did. Glad to see another survival horror enthusiast, too. The first three Silent Hill games are my everything.

Hi. Joined today and glad to find like-minded people. A very special film whose impact and importance seems to just grow as Hollywood and the like churn out the same old crap each year since. Probably never to be repeated. Yes, I'm a bit of a fan.

Hey strangers. My love for the Blair Witch Project has resurfaced hard over the past few months so i figured i'd take the plunge and make an account on here.
For a short introduction story I first watched the film at the cool age of 13 when one of my best friends brought the movie over. At the time I knew nothing about BWP at all so he convinced me it was all based on "real" footage. While skeptical about his claims the movie was indeed a truly scary experience for me. The atmosphere was like nothing I had ever seen before and my imagination ran wild with images of what was really out there in those woods. I remember after it was over not being able to sleep at all and scrambled to search the internet to find out if it was real or not. Even after getting the facts on it and finding out the truth it didn't detract from the experience at all and even on repeated viewings it stills stands to this day as one of my favorite movies ever.

Welcome, crookedsun. Glad to see you've found your way to the board.
I first found out about the movie from someone explaining that it wasn't real, so I knew all along, but even then, I got really caught up in the realistic way it was presented, particularly on the web site back in 1999. The internet was still pretty new back then, so it had a sort of legitimacy to it (long before the days of things like, well, YouTube comments and other online idiocy). I tried to keep some friends in the dark when inviting them to see the movie, pretending it was real (and they were REALLY freaked), but unfortunately, they caught Heather, Mike, and Josh on a talk show the night before we went. Almost pulled it off. (Yes, I am a little bit evil.)
Anyway, have fun here. It can be slow, but most of us tend to flit in and out of the woods from time to time.

Very cool story. Haha I don't blame you for being a little bit evil, I would have done the same thing. I really would have loved to have been old enough to get caught up in the myth/hype of it all when it first came out. The lengths they went to make it seem convincing were amazing for the time. I will say the realistic approach of the BWP is part of why I love it so much and why I think it is the best POV movie.
I'll try to have fun, I don't expect much activity on this board but it's really great to see there is some people hanging around.

Hello, y'all! I joined in today, but I do know about the forums for a couple of years now. I figured it'd be nice to finally register and share my story... It's a bit long, but if you care to know more about me: First of all, I'm a 24-year-old guy from Brazil. I work as an editor/translator for a small publishing company, and I mainly deal with horror stuff. I'm also a writer - my first novel came out last year. That being said, my first contact with "The Blair Witch Project" was in 1999 when I first saw the teaser poster of the movie at a theater here in my city (the place no longer exists). It really was an interesting moment because the poster was located in a dark corridor, all painted black, where the people who came out of the rooms would walk through to exit the building. So there I was, 7 years old and already into horror (had seen many titles up to that point, not afraid at all), super excited about a movie with "witch" in the title. (Just as a curiosity, here in Brazil the title is simply the equivalent to "The Blair Witch"; no "Project"). I remember eagerly waiting for it to be released and, when it was, I went to watch it with my aunt. Never could I have imagined that this movie would affect me so deeply! As soon as I got out of the movie theater and walked home, it was starting to get dark. And I immediately felt something strange, like a burden - something heavy on the inside. Of course that, being only 7, I couldn't understand what was going on. At that very night, I recall being terrified to go to sleep in the dark, and I had all the stuff that happened in the movie going through my head in an endless loop. But it wasn't just a normal "kid watches a horror flick and gets scared at night". Even months later, when I got to go to bed without thinking of it, I'd still feel that strange sensation when the daylight was fading and the sky was turning dark. It stopped being related to the movie. I'd feel worried about my family members and friends being out at night - and I knew they were nowhere near a haunted forest; other than that, they were in the middle of the city! Eventually, I got older and began to state that I didn't like to be out alone at night. My parents got concerned, but it was only years later, when I actually wouldn't leave the apartment alone at any time of day or night, that we sought medical help. The diagnosis was Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia. Don't get me wrong: I'm not "blaming" it all on the movie - in fact I'm not "blaming" at all (I freaking love everything related to it); I'm aware that there have been some other situations, especially in my teens, that worsened the conditions, such as bullying. However, the uncomfortable sensations of fear I'd have at 7 did start right after watching it - way before any bullying whatsoever. So TBWP managed to get inside my mind and terrify me in levels that took me a lot of time to understand. Even in the years after I watched it in the theater, I always had such an attraction towards it that in spite of it scaring the s--t out of me, I'd go and watch it again at home, or search info. on it on the web. And, by doing so, as the years went by, I managed to control these sensations. Now I'm doing pretty good, been taking medication for years and I no longer feel like I did at that time. However, my fascination for the Mythology, the films etc continue stronger than ever! Well, that is my story I felt it was "right" for me to be a part of this site and learn from everyone's experiences and shared info., since I've been a fan for so long and never really met anyone who worshipped it as much as I do.

Welcome aboard. Sorry to hear the film affected you that way. Seven was probably too young to watch this. I saw it as an adult and it made an impression on me to say the least. Got in my head and never really left. Good cinema does that
