The "special edition" workprint is exactly 4 minutes and 57 seconds longer than the theatrical cut in actual film footage.
That means not counting the intro Lionsgate logo and ending credits in the theatrical cut ... or the intro "feature presentation" logo and the ending credits in the special edition workprint.
special edition workprint: 1:22:11 theatrical: 1:17:14
The workprint also has the dirtier "old found footage" feeling to it in both visual and audio terms.
So I therefore pronounce the special edition workprint as the definitive edition for "found under ruins" lost footage.
And yes, I possess both the power and authority to do so.

What about the 100 min cut that was trimmed to become the Sundance cut? It has more footage

Ok, I'll bite..
A 1 hour and 40 minute cut trimmed down to the Sundance version of just over 2 hours in length?
Well alrighty then.

the sundance cut isn't over 2 hours. The version screened at Sundance was whittled down from a version shown over the summer of 98 which that was whittled down from a 2+ hour cut. Either that or Ed is lying to me

But in all seriousness, the cut that was shown at the University of Central Florida in the summer of 1998 was most likely identical to the Manhattan Sundance version that was viewed by Heather, Mike, & Josh in January 1999.
The original "Enzian Cut" was about 3 hours long. (I believe the producer mentioned that in a Q&A)
Which means they "whittled" off 40 minutes from the Enzian Cut to become the UCF Cut, which in turn became the Sundance Cut -- which was whittled further to become the workprint, which was LATER whittled even more to become the final theatrical cut.
I believe Haxan intended the workprint to be the final product before Artisan got involved.
Keep in mind that Myrick confirmed 28 HOURS of woods footage was shot all-in-all.
So we don't need the Sundance Cut. WE NEED THE ENZIAN CUT.
One day I will break into the Haxan vault and then we'll see what's what.

What about the 100 min cut that was trimmed to become the Sundance cut? It has more footage ^ Maybe by chance you misread this? I wish there was a 2 hour and 20 min aka 140 min cut. The cut above being 1:40/100min is what i meant if i confused you i'm sorry. The hour and forty minute cut Ed gave me has the scene w/ Heather, Josh & Mike at the diner after their drinking and poetry in the motel room amongst other things the Sundance cut didn't have.

Yeah I fudged up a little bit there.
Anyway, the Enzian was longer than the Sundance,
the Sundance was longer than the workprint,
and the workprint is 5 minutes longer than the theatrical.
Now .. PLEASE upload and share your version with me via PM.
Thank You!

Ok good, i wasn't sure where I said a 140min cut lol even i would be impressed w/ seeing that
Ed told me that the Sundance and workprint were the same thing. I got a copy from here and a copy from a friend who has one for years and his was labeled sundance and they're the same length and content.
Yes the Enzian is def longer, it was the 2 hour plus cut which i'm dying to find the beta tapes to if someone still has it. I'm guessing Monello or Cowie and i will track them down. I'm scheduled to talk to Monello here soon hopefully before the holidays.

Was your 1h:40m cut ever shown ANYWHERE?
and .... you're not going to share it with me I take it?
Personal gift from Ed to you and you can't take the risk of me sharing it with the world... right?
Well anyway, according to you, Heather and Mike were mistaken in the 2014 Q&A panel when they said the Manhattan Sundance cut was just over two hours in length.

From what Ed told me it was screened once in 98. I got a ton of footage from Ed recently (to the tune of 40+ hours and not its not the raw footage) I have to go through all of that. I don't know about the Manhattan Sundance but i'll look for footage for that tonight and start asking. My notes are very scattered so you may be telling me something I don't know which may contradict something I heard which is fine i want to make sure I have all the info and its correct.
I am hesitant to share because I know noone else has it and as much as I want to i'm just uncertain at this point. I'm not sure he'd care but i'm treading lightly if that makes sense? So just bear with me till i either get the ok from him to share it or find out what his thoughts are, sound ok?
I'll rewatch that panel to see whats up. I have so much to watch and take notes on that its hard to keep up on everything

I just read an article about the 1999 Sundance and it also said that the Sundance cut was about 2.5 hours long.
There might have been two separate Sundance screenings! One in Utah and one in Manhattan.
The Utah screening was January 24, 1999
.. don't know when the Manhattan screening took place.
Wait. I think the Manhattan screening was the FILM PREMIER, not Sundance related at all.
Confused because Heather said the "Manhattan Sundance" was the first time she saw it.. weird.
I don't know.

well i bet you there's a festival that they refer to it as the manhattan sundance. I know for a fact that the sundance screening in jan 99 was not 2+ hours as Artisan bought it right away and Artisan did not do any cuts to the film.
The mystery deepens, we will find out
