The trailer looks pretty sick. I hope this is a good one.

Quite honestly, the original is bad... I love it simply because I have memories of it from my childhood but it was quite terrible.
I feel good about this because the remake is in the hands of Aja. The man has a lot of talent soooo I have no doubt that his vision of this classic story will exceed the original by far. With his incredible directing abilities (::as portrayed by one of my top favourite genre films -- Haute Tension) and obvious love for the genre - it is at least certain that this remake will be entertaining and it will be be awesome visually, if nothing else. I am looking forward to seeing what his take is on what I consider to be a very flawed and very dated story.
They have posters up online and they look awesome! The 'look' of the film from the various photographs I have seen definitely present the movie as the period piece Aja intends it to be, so that is a very good sign. Like I said, visually we won't be able to go wrong because Aja certainly has an eye for detail when it comes to pulling off a very grainy canvas and an excellent atmosphere (suspense, tension, psychological thrillride really). He also has actual mutants in his version, of course per makeup Fx not literally. lol
Anyway, good call Tweek. It does look like it's going to rawk!

WooHoo! I've been invited to a screening of The Hills Have Eyes tomorrow at 2pm. I'll let you guys/gals know what I think when I return home. It will probably be late tomorrow night or possibly Friday before I report in.
I said it before, somewhere, I will say it again... I love Aja.

Okay sorry for the delay! I was exhausted when we got home and I had to work last night soooo here goes...
This movie is awesome! It is BY FAR better than the original - while I am not a big fan of the original I still appreciate it and I can easily say that Aja's remake really proves that all the remake hate is bologna. Remake, sequel, prequel, rip-off, blah blah -- any movie that comes out has a chance of being good or bad. If people would stop bashing movies based solely on whether or not it is a remake they might actually be surprised.
Anyway, back to THHA!
The gore was BRILLIANT! The mutants looked awesome! Wait until you guys see the tail end of this puppy -- there is a surprise waiting! I'm not going to spoil it for you though! Try to avoid reviews if at all possible. Even though the script stays pretty true to the original, trust me when I say it still stands alone! Hands down the best remake I have seen and it honestly does put the original to shame, IMO!
The actors/actresses did a fine job! The cinematography was even more divine than I had expected. As a HUGE Aja fan - I honestly did have the gut feeling this movie would deliver the goods but never did I expect it to go as far beyond my expectations as it did!
I have proclaimed my love since HAUTE TENSION but I say it loud and clear -- Aja is my man - step back people! Seriously you guys will be unlikely to dislike this movie, especially if you are a fan of the original! It certainly applies to the non-fans because I am proof!
THIS is what I wanted to see!! I will be back at the theatre next weekend to support Aja at the box office! COME ON EVERYONE -- support the genre and a brilliant young director that is sure to bring us many more horror gems!!!

It's not the point of bashing; it is the fact that we want new material that is really new and interesting. I want the new original classics instead of a comparison. For every remake like TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE there are 12 THE FOG, THE HAUNTING, HOUSE

I want new material as well. I guess you can say Peter Jackson is riding on the coat tails of the original makers of King Kong, however you can't pass up the fantastic job he did. It's not taking away anything from the original but on the contrary, a good remake adds to the original. I still like a new story though and I haven't seen too many lately. I wish they would make the BW prequel already and finish the series. I fear they never will.

Well Aja was asked to remake Hills by Craven himself. So there is the difference.
Most of the remakes are made with the directors initial thought being $$$$! Aja is a classy guy - and I say he is the NEW big thing in horror!
Go support our genre tomorrow by watching the Hills remake. You won't be sorry. It is awesome!

I saw the remake and liked it alot. I still want to see more original movies on the list of new movies as opposed to remakes and sequels.

This film was terrible. Truly. no redeming feature. As far as gratuitous horror and exploitation goes - htis film doesnt even register with the greats - no atmosphere, no anything - I get that it was the point it was in your face and humna horror - not supernatural but the film did not fascilitate any sort of urgency or terror.
The rape scene fitted with the movies general visceral attitude - the only thing was it was aesthetically badly conceived. It did none of the things a horror move rape should do - it was not even a nihilistic approach, let alone scary, gruesome, graphic, titilating, sexy, seductive, - it had no redeming features - which was the point - but this was a bad point to make, as it offered no intelligent argument for this being the case! The whole film seemed to carry some sort of hightened sense of itself, and its politicsising overtook the story as the main element - so you had a lot of images of geste that were pretty and overtly apparent, but the film in trying to break conventions ignored why certain conventions exist - because the create the genre! subverting and challenging those conventions makes for excitement and tension - unpredicable - the story is always straining at the leash in this vein, but never quite breaking free
This film had no grounding or sense of purpose - it was poorly executed and gratuitous - not in an exploitation way, or in violent barbarity - but had no sense of regular post-modernism where there was pottential for irony and a wry smile - which owuld have fitted the cooky plot better. A film like Saw or Hostel has a relentless approach - but manages to be credible as film because it is intelligent and brave, without resorting to gratuity for the sake of it.
Gratuity is fine - dont get me wrong - but if a film is arguing an intelligent point, the gratuity itself sould be self acknowledging, and the film has no sense of place or of self, and so fails.
A clockwork orange is far more disturbing as it forces us to consider the rape alongside the comedy and this dichotomy is repeated throughout - beauty and terror combine to give rise to a sublime image that is powerfull and subversive. The hills have eyes wanted to be both, but could never realise this ambition because it was stifled by the desire to be as apocalyptic as most new millenia horror - when its content was clearly grounded in twentieth century vernacular.

coffin rock - the cinematography was awsome? it was pathetic! It was too caught up in its own attmepts at daylight horror that it forgot what makes this so terrifying - the raw power and quality - digital photography does not allow for the gritty realism that is demanded unless it is handled with care. The cinematography did not capture the heat or isolation of the desert. The petrol station inside was a non-event, again, even if this was the idea, it did not jar enough with the revelation of the nuclear testing on the wall of paper clippings to make this a valid approach. it was all very badly conceived to drive towards the films political aspirations - which were laughable

Yipiii...Had no problems yesterday and the film was awesome. But I actually thought the film was kind mystic, but it really isn't. I'd say it's pure horror, but fantastic.

The Hills Have Eyes was very good... much better than something like The Grudge. It was just hard to believe no one would know about a world of deranged mutants living so close to civilization in this day and age... and, that they would all be so strong and physically healthy after being exposed to all that radiation.
