Only recently found out about the trailofellykedward site (just from lurking here while trying to learn more about the franchise, so thanks for that), but I'm really curious about the history of the site which I can't find much information about.
From old posts here, sounds like the site was a teaser for years and at some point hosted a flash animation, and then went down for a period before it was relaunched with the current web series.
Assuming that there was an original animation/version of the story, I'd be really interested in seeing it. Sounds like there was a static pdf version in the works, does anyone have or know where I could find the original swf or that pdf?
Thanks in advance.

Dan would be the guy who knows, as it's his web site. My memory of it is that the original was a placeholder for the web domain; Dan was chewing on Elly's history for quite some time. In maybe 2001 or so he built the original with some flash, but it was mostly a text-based web site, with the narrative line of her life. It went down again for many years (too many other pots on too many other different stoves, some of which are WELL worth checking out--I'm thinking of his White Enamel project, which is quite time sensitive so you should go visit it NOW NOW NOW before Adobe kills the Flash program altogether as early as next year) .....and by then the narrative had been so well refined it was barely recognizable from the old one.
And the masterpiece you see now, that gorgeous proof-of-concept experimental project....that's the culmination of 20 years of Dan Karcher thinking about a project. He'll be able to give you super-specifics, as much as he's comfortable doing so. Gimme a minute and I'll ping him. Stay tuned!

No problem. I've watched all of the new series and the original over the last couple days. It's interesting how much has changed from the original, especially since the line about her losing 7 babies was also referenced in the comic, but I really prefer the new story more, especially after season 3. Just that she's had some good in her early life, makes me feel like they can make a much more compelling story for her time in Blair. Looking forward to Season 4!

Dan is working on an answer for you, and in glorious Karcher fashion, it's going to be An Answer. Stay tuned!

Sorry I've not been able to log in and respond sooner, it's been madness in time management over here.
As Geranium Kate can attest, I was prepared to give a full and detailed explanation, however by coincidence there are major changes ahead and with that - in order to avoid spoilers (and assorted legalities) - I can only explain a little.
Yes, the site acted as a teaser for quite some time as a rough-draft bullet-point timeline. That has since changed of course, and the original teaser has expanded a great deal from the rough-draft treatment to a current full-blown narrative online series.
What few know is that The Trial of Elly Kedward itself was never intended to be the actual prequel itself. It was intended as the backstory to the prequel (that takes place from 1785 and involves the execution and following curse), which is the brainchild and work of Ed's. The backstory, The Trial of Elly Kedward, is of my own creation to work directly hand-in-hand with the Blair prequel, to function as a backstory on the Blair site, much as the timeline functions on the original classic '99 site.
The idea behind it is to explore the physical life and heritage of Elly Kedward in a concept that Geranium Kate once eloquently put it: "My God, what happened to her?"
As mentioned, the original teaser has expanded a great deal from the rough-draft treatment you're referring to, to a current full-blown narrative that is being presented as a proof-of-concept series experiment.
With that, and because of new developments, the Elly Kedward site will be undergoing a massive adjustment and become a member's access series.
More on that soon...

"member's access series"
Is that code for $19.99 a month?

"member's access series"Is that code for $19.99 a month? Hah! No. But with new material being added and in agreement with a long-term plan now set, it will be a password access series. Think Netflix, without the fee.

Oh, there's plenty of that. Though I would describe it more-so as "graphic nudity and adult situations." 'Have to allow "some" integrity to the site; not much, but I can throw it a bone now and then. Pun somewhat intended.
