Spoke with my wife regarding this... she thinks I'm nuts... Is it odd that I pine for the day when you had to wait for a movie to come out on VHS or DVD? For me, a movie coming out for rental was almost like an event. Now, with Netflicks, Rocku, IHOP, MapQuest, etc. etc. I don't quite feel the excitement of a new film. I get that now I can watch what I want when I want but does anyone miss the "good old days" when you anticipated the excitement of a new release? Maybe I'm alone on this but thought I'd see if anyone felt the way I do.

I'd much rather go to a video store and pick out some movies, over streaming it on Netflix. Luckily, there's a video store close by.

Nope. I never enjoyed that. Driving to BB. The thing I want is all rented out. As is my second choice. So I take home something I don't really want to see so as to not be a wasted trip. Then having to return it. REWINDING. No thank you.
Am I revealing my age by mentioning rewinding? Yes I remember renting VHS tapes.

Well hell, thanks guys. I know it sounds like a middle class gripe but I just felt like complaining a tad. Now I'm going to cue up my computer...device.... whatever you call it and find the trashiest horror flick available. I'm thinking The Greasy Strangler. Anyone have a suggestion?

Then having to return it. REWINDING. No thank you. Am I revealing my age by mentioning rewinding? Yes I remember renting VHS tapes. Not at all. I remember rewinding VHS tapes and being screwed out of my 1st and 2nd choices and being stuck watching Children of the Corn 2 or Bride of Chucky when I really wanted to see 28 Days Later. That's the thing about nostalgia, everything seemed great but, in retrospect, you realize that things could get to be pretty lame...

I never go looking for a specific movie for that reason. I just browse and pick whatever looks/sounds good.

Yes I remember renting VHS tapes. Hell, I remember renting a tape at Blockbuster and buying a blank one as well, thinking I was sneaky. There was one cashier who always knew what was up. He would hold up my rental after scanning it and say, "(movie title)!" then hold up the new, blank VHS and state, "Soon-to-be (movie title)!" I miss those days (simply for nostalgia purposes. Now we even have to set foot out to get a movie).

Ok. I have input into this convo amoungst our friends for sure. Back in the day, even before I was 9, I would enjoy the neighborhood video store acouple blocks away from the Maria were me and my dad and sister used to live on a boat, a Chinese junk, made out of teak and gum wood. Our marina, fisherman's wharf in the inner harbour in Victoria, had,in those days only two shops, Barb's fish and chips, and the crab shop next door, now it's really different and there's like maybe 8 shops selling ice cream, boat rides, ect it's crazy. On the weekends I would ride around on my rusty bmx bike with no brakes and collect pop bottles and take em back for the change and rent a movie at my very first video store,"prime time video" back then it probably cost like $2.25 to rent a new release and of course even less for a old one, also for the Sega genesis games. Back then no one even cared about how old I was, I could walk up to the counter with anything and rent it, that's how I had nightmares from crazy movies. I have lots of memories from renting there, watching movie like child's play, carnisaour, chud, attack of the killer tomorrow's, little shop of horrors, puppet master, total recall and all the other Arnold movies. Over the years the movie store experienced the same thing all the other ones did, a decline in rentals and sales from people downloading off the internet, long gone were the days were people went to the video store for the movies, as well as seeing pay phones here or there, there gone too. Last time I checked out the old neighborhood, prime time video had turned itself into a combo video store/pet shop to survive, but it didn't make it, now it's a dollar store. I'll always have fond memories of that place, renting movies and games like street fighter and earth worm Jim. but you know what guys? I have a idea that movie stores will make a partial come back, in the future poeple will once again see the value of visiting the video store, they will be guys like us that say "f#ck you future! You suck!" I'm going to the video store like the good old days! And once again, there will be a special place, that really brings a neighborhood together.

I think we all have that kind of story, lostinthewoods. Last time I checked out the old neighborhood, prime time video had turned itself into a combo video store/pet shop to survive, but it didn't make it, now it's a dollar store. My Blockbuster was left vacant for about a year before a Domino's Pizza set up shop in half the building. The other half is still empty. And I hate Domino's Pizza (like, just in general).

The old Hollywood Video here turned into a mattress store a long time ago. The Blockbuster here turned into a paint store and I think some kind of Health medical place.
Yeah, me and my roommate used to copy the movies we rented. We even thought we were sneaky.

If I had a bunch of money I would open a store, but have half of it be a video store, or at least a big part of it, so I could be a guy having a video store but it would be supported by the coffee shop it also was and wouldnt sink if no one rented there enough. There is a video store down the street like five blocks away, it's called pic a flick, and it's been there ALONG time, I used to go there after swimming lessons at the YMCA and my dad would let us rent a movie every tuesday, it was so long ago I remember renting Terminator 2 when it was in the new release section, when the new releases used to be on the far right wall. Pic a flick is threatened now by development in cook street village, and "they" ( the developers ) want to build a condo building there so picaflic will have to relocate. I hate construction.

An odd question:
Sometimes I touch myself while watching a pr0n0graphic video.
Is that wrong of me?
