Storyline:
In 1994, three filmmaker students disappeared while investigating the Blair Witch folklore. One of the students, Heather Donahue was in touch with this legend after a trip she made one year earlier.
After Prof. David Mercier and a couple of anthropology students from Montgomery College found a backpack containing the 1994’s student videotapes, a legal fight between the families and Burkittsville county Sheriff began.
In 1997, Haxan Entertainment reenacted some of the 1994 tape scenes mixing it with the original film. Angie Donahue, mother of Heather, accepted this without knowing this crime piece of evidence would become a horror flick. The Donahue’s, the Leonard’s and the Williams’ received backlash, and the actors that made the reenactments also became a subject of persecution.
In year 1999, The Blair Witch Project, the mixed dramatized version of the 1994’s tapes was released. Burkittsville found itself with thousands of fans that didn’t know that this horror film was real. Between this people was Jeffrey Patterson, a local insane young man son of two 1960’s Blair Witch Cult founding members. Patterson and two unidentified people killed a total of 10 tourists that were camping at the Black Hills Forest near Coffin Rock.
Artisan Entertainment, owner of the Blair Witch material made a sequel using elements of the Coffin Rock Massacre. In an statement they accepted that The Blair Witch Project was based in a real incident but they defended themselves claiming that the film was a dramatization of the 1994 events.
In the following years Sheriff Cravens, responsible of the 1994 investigation and the backlash of Blair Witch phenomena became a reclusive. And Burkittsville started to destroy evidence of the Blair Witch legend.
In 2013 James Donahue, brother of Heather and five students went to the woods and disappeared. Lionsgate made then, in 2016 a fictionalized version of this event in a movie named Blair Witch.
This Urban Legend Documentary studies de recent events related with the Blair Witch of Frederick County. Talking about the story of it but having a focus in the happenings after the 1994 disappearances.
A group of 4 people goes into the Black Hills after interviewing people related to the search parties looking for the 1994 and 2014 disappearances and the freaky events in the area.
Experts in Burkittsville history, mixed with talking head interviews are the preface to a real life investigation of the area, starting with the surroundings of the Black Rock Road, place in which Joshua Leonard’s car was found in the investigation, continuing with a guided tour by Ed Swanson, a fisherman interviewed by Heather Donahue in 1994, to the Coffin Rock area.
From there, the four experts (two filmmakers, an anthropologist and a folklore expert) capture scary noises and strange occurrences. Contrary to all paranormal shows and films, this documentary will not have background music at the Woods investigation part of the film.

Plot:
- TITLE – White lettering in Courier type fades to Screen
- The Lost Chronicles: –
- Blair Witch –
-
- STATEMENT – Same white letters, same type fades to Screen.
- In the last 20 years two members of the Donahue Family disappeared at the Black Hills Woods while investigating a local legend named the Blair Witch.
-
- The following documentary will show disturbing imagery recorded in October 2018 by a group of anthropology and film experts. It also presents evidence about the 1994 and 2014 cases.
- Viewer Discretion is advised.
- A Burkittsville Historian appears at the screen as a talking head expert –
- My name is Bill Barnes; I’m a retired historian that worked in the Burkittsville Historical Society for the last 35 years.
- Mr. Barnes, please tell us what is the Blair Witch legend.
- Well young man, as you all know, Hollywood exploited our little town that suffered several strange events in the last years. Elly Kedward, the Blair Witch, haunted the woods that surround Burkittsville for the last 200 years.
- But, you mean by that that the film named Blair Witch Project, released in 1999 and the film Blair Witch, released in 1994, are based in real missing person cases.
- Yes. I was at the film exhibition on Burkittsville Sheriff Department.
- And the footage that you watched at 1995 is different to the movie’s footage?
- Well, yes, you see. The footage is three hours long and the film is an hour long.
- Yeah Mr. Barnes, but I asked you another thing. The footage that you watched in 1995 has the same scenes that the 1999 released film?
- No.
- CUTS TO CHARLES MOOREHOUSE INTERVIEW IN WHICH HE EXPLAINS THE BLAIR WITCH LEGEND –
- CUTS TO BLACK
- CUTS TO CHRIS CARRAZCO ORIGINAL BLAIR WITCH STORYTELLING AT BURKITTSVILLE 7.
- The film crew interviews Chris Carrazco, the guy that appears at The Burkittsville 7 –
- Mr. Carrazco, please could you tell us, what’s your opinion about the 1994 and 2014 missing cases?
- My opinion is that Burkittsville Sheriff Department knows something that we don’t.
- Why you say that?
- Look the facts, in my Never Given site I proved that the 1940’s Rustin Parr case is more complex that it’s presented at the Haxan guys documentaries.
- Wait, you still think that Kyle Brody did the killings?
- I never said that, my theory says that something apart of Parr was responsible of those gruesome acts, and Brody was the one that survived. I can’t go to Burkittsville; the folks hate me because they don’t want to admit that there are some dangerous individuals at the area.
- What individuals?
- The Blair Witch Cult.
- The 1960’s hippie commune?
- It was more than a hippie commune, Janine Brody, who has sent me some weird stuff to my house, was slash is member of that group. Also the Coffin Rock Killing dude, his parents were founding members of that cult. At 1996 FBI found that there were people still living at the Black Road surroundings. You cannot contradict facts.
- In a documentary about the Rustin Parr Killings you say that the Blair Witch Project was a sick joke made by sick perturbed people. You still think that?
- I talked about the 1999 Blair Witch Project; I don’t know what the original 1994 tapes contain. Former Sheriff Cravens didn’t release the tapes until 1997 and one of the filmmakers families gave them to a Hollywood company. What happened in 1994 is still a mystery to me, what we know is that there are people being murdered at the woods, in the 1800s, in the 1940s or in the 90s.
- CUTS TO FOOTAGE OF THE BLAIR WITCH CULT RECORDED IN 1988 BY AN UNKNOWN PERSON THAT WAS HIKING THE WOODS –
- Fades to a creative talk between two of the main characters.
- You think it’s appropriate?
- Well, we need to interview the Donahue’s and the Leonard’s and later we will meet some guys that are related to that Lane guy of the 2014 tape.
- CUTS TO A ROAD TRIP FOOTAGE –
- THE TWO MAIN CHARACTERS PARK NEAR A HOUSE AT SALEM, AND SPOT A 60 YEAR OLD WOMAN –
- Mrs. Donahue, please can we ask you a few questions?
- No, I don’t want to talk with no one.
- But please, we want to know…
- What do you want to know, that my two kids were murdered by something?
- What was on the 1994 and the 2014 tape? We talked to people that watched the footage and it doesn’t…
- Stop it; I gave the tapes to Haxan ok? They made some reenactments but the film shows what happened to Heather. Jimmy disappeared too and Hollywood thinks it’s a joke. You wanna know what Artisan did when they released the film? They sent us a frigging basket of fruit.
- But, Ms… Ms. Donahue, what about the girl that appears at the film? Is she your daughter. Is the guy at the Blair Witch film your son?
- I don’t want to talk to you ok? My daughter and my son are missing. If you want to believe that the people at the REENACTMENTS at those films were them you are wrong. Bye.
- CUTS TO THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT TRAILERS –
- Fades to the Investigation Team watching the film in order to analyze part of the footage –
- Hey man, what are you looking for?
- The glitches, I found at some Blair Witch groups that there are some deleted scenes and those are more blurry than the ones that appear at the 99 movie.
- BLACK SCREEN, TWO SCENES APPEAR, AT THE LEFT SIDE WE SEE THE TWANA SCENES OF THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, AND AT THE RIGHT SIDE WE WATCH A NEW SCENE, FOUND IN AN UPLOAD SITE, SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT, THAT LOOKS MORE 1994 THAN THE MOVIE’S SCENE.
- Narration: You can see there are several differences with some parts of the movie, Joshua Leonard’s camera record something in 1994 and at the 1999 film we watch a similar scene recorded by an actor. Those differences are part of our investigation, we need to know where the 1994 and the 2014 tapes are and what happened to those film crews.
- SCREEN FADES TO BLACK –
- SEVERAL SILENT FOOTAGE APPEAR, FIRST THE CLERK INTERVIEW IN BWP, SECOND THE SHADOW OF THE BLAIR WITCH TRIAL SCENES, THEN FOOTAGE OF JAMES DONAHUE AND LISA ARLINGTON AT THE BLACK HILLS. WE HEAR AT THE SAME TIME SHERIFF CRAVENS STATEMENT IN 1995: “David Mercier and his Anthropology team found a duffel bag containing audiovisual material related to the missing students” –
- THEN TWO TALKING HEADS APPEAR, FIRST PROFESSOR DECOTO (Heather Donahue and Joshua Leonard’s Film Professor) AND DAVID MERCIER.
- My name is David Mercier. And I found the 1994’s Blair Witch Project tapes.
- My name is Michael DeCoto. I was Heather’s and Joshua’s teacher and I gave them permission to do The Blair Witch Project.
- SMALL FADE TO BLACK AND THE TALKING HEADS INTERVIEW BEGIN –
- Mercier: At first I thought it was incredible to find that duffelbag underneath a 100 year old foundation at the woods.
- Interviewer: Wait a minute, this foundation was built 100 years ago or it was an estimate?
- Mercier: it was built in the late 1800’s. As long as I know, a serial killer named Rustin Parr furnished it in the late 1930’s. After he was hanged the house was torn down.
- Interviewer: Prof. DeCoto, why you accepted to let the students go to a wooden area that had this disturbing history?
- DeCoto: Sincerely I don’t know, I admitted a few years ago that I was naïve about this, and that this expedition Heather, Josh and Mike were doing wasn’t going to stay in the woods more than a couple hours.
- I: Mr. Mercier, did you or your student group found anything else like tents, blood or something near those ruins?
- M: No, also, after a year of exposure, I’m sure that animals and other things have been responsible of the disappearance of clothing and camping material.
- I: You say, other things, what does that mean?
- DC: Well, umm, the group, the guys that lived in the woods…
- I: What group?
- M: I remember talking with Michael, after we found the tapes, that there were some words written at the trees, and it’s possible that some people were habituating the woods near that particular area.
- I: You mean a cult in the woods?
- M: You remember the 1999 Coffin Rock Murders?
- I: Yeah, a year later a film was made about that.
- M: Book of Shadows.
- M: This guy, Jeffrey I think, his parents were part of this group. In 1996, police found some stuff related to Joshua Leonard at Jeffrey’s house. Because of popular opinion thinking this was a hoax, Sheriff Department didn’t put any resource in finding more clues about it and Patterson’s family only put Jeffrey at a Psychiatric Ward.
- I: You think that Patterson’s family or this cult is involved in the disappearance of the 1994 students?
- M: Yeah, well, of course there must be some kind of connection. But well, I also think that there’s this “presence” in the Woods. After the Donahue kid went missing I don’t go to that part of the forest anymore.
- I: You think that the 1994 and 2014 missing person cases are related to the Blair Witch itself?
- M: Yes.
- I: Mr. DeCoto?
- DC: Sincerely, I don’t know what to think (he breaks down)
- FADES TO BLACK –
- JOSHUA LEONARD’S DAD BEING INTERVIEWED ABOUT THE PRESENCE OF A CULT IN THE WOODS –
- FADES TO SCREEN –
- (ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS APPEAR TALKING AT A CAR WITH THE OTHER CHARACTER, THEY ARE TRAVELING NOW TO BURKITTSVILLE)
- Look man, the sign. Well, the 16’ flick forgot that detail (POINTING OUT THAT THE ACTUAL BURKITTSVILLE SIGN IS NOW BLUE, IN CONTRAST TO THE 2016 FILM THAT SHOWS THE ORIGINAL TOWN SIGN)
- Where are we going?
- To Ed Swanson’s place. Near Black Rock Road.
- Who?
- The tall slim fisherman interviewed by Heather before heading to C. Rock.
- Oh ok.
- CUTS TO BLACK, THE SWANSON SCENE OF BWP IN AN EXTENDED CUT APPEARS –
- WE SEE OUR PROTAGONISTS COMING OUT FROM THE CAR, ONE OF THEM TAKES THE CAMERA AND THEY WALK TO A WOODEN AREA OF THE BLACK HILLS, NEAR THE PLACE IN WHICH JOSHUA LEONARD’S CAR WAS PARKED. SUDDENLY THEY SEE ED SWANSON IN A LUMBERJACK SHIRT AND GENERIC JEANS.
- Hi, you must be Ed.
- Yeah, how are you man? (They shake hands)
- Fine, we’ve talkin’ a few weeks ago and we want to record an interview at the same place in which Mrs. Donahue did it.
- No problem.
- AFTER THAT THEY WALK INTO THE WOODS AND DISCUSS THE BLAIR WITCH LEGEND.
- Are you familiar with these woods?
- Yeah, my parents took me here in the late 70s. It’s a nice, peaceful place if you avoid the grizzly details of its history.
- And after the 1994 case, did something else happen in the woods? I mean, did any search party enter the woods after that?
- Well, people say that the woods are haunted, and there’s this frenzy after the tapes were released. For example, the cultish group that was living in the 70s…
- What, the BW Cult?
- Yeah…
- But, they disbanded in the early 70s…
- That’s the official story (and he blinks to them, the two protagonists look themselves in a disturbing way)
- SWANSON THEN EXPLAINS TO THEM THE STORY –
- A group of hippies that were in a Wiccan movement at the outskirts of Burkittsville suddenly started to camp in the Black Hills to worship Elly Kedward. Some folks in the town are descendants of the Blair township people.
- But… wait, didn’t the Blair people flee after the 1786 curse?
- Well, some Blair residents were friends of Elly and surely they knew she was a witch.
- And tell us, the Blair Witch Cult… Was living in the Black Hills at the time Heather, Mike and Josh went missing?
- I couldn’t tell but if you search on the net, there were some blood rituals and killings in the woods a couple years before the 1994’s case.
- THEY REACH THE TAPPY EAST CREEK –
- Well, here it is, I used to go fishing until Ms. Heather’s brother went missing. I know that there was not a good search party to find the kids in 2014. Sheriff Office doesn’t forget their legal troubles with Angela Donahue after the BWP release.
- That’s the reason why the 2004 case wasn’t released to the public?
- CUTS TO A COLLAGE OF VIDEO AND AUDIO FEATURES OF SEVEN IN TEN FILM –
- Well, here people know that a girl went missing in the mid-2000 but not many people talk about it anymore.
- Why’s that?
- Because they are scary of three elements: The Sheriff Dept., the Blair Witch, and the Cult.
- Are you scared of these three elements?
- Yes, but someone needs to say that this town has some weird stuff around it.
- SUDDENLY ED ASK THE GUYS SOMETHING:
- Man, can I ask you a question?
- Yeah, sure.
- What are you planning?
- Well, between you and us, we are going hiking to the Black Hills. We need to find evidence of the Blair Witch Cult.
- I don’t think that’s a good idea. Here, even the trees listen…
- THEN ED WALKS AWAY WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING. THE CREW IS OVERWELMED AND THEY GO BACK TO THEIR CAR AND DRIVE AWAY. THEY TALK TO EACH OTHER.
- What the fuck happen with these people? I don’t think it’s a safe place to be around.
- Man, calm down, you and I are into martial; also two other guys will go with us.
- Did you searched about them?
- Yeah, I’m not Patterson (BLINKS TO THE OTHER GUY AND THEY PUT SOME MUSIC)
- Tell me (NAME), do you believe in this?
- Of course, there’s evidence all around us.
- BLACK SCREEN, SKYPE CONNECT SOUND TURN ON, SUDDENLY WE WATCH OUR TWO PROTAGONISTS TALKING WITH THE OTHER TWO PERSON OF THE CREW, A FEMALE AND A MALE, THEY ARE NOT COUPLE, THE FEMALE IS AN ANTHROPOLOGIST AND THE MALE IS A FOLKLORE EXPERT AND FILMMAKER –
- Woods Segment will be film with a complimentary script and improvisation techniques. This segment likely will be 50 minutes long.
- Elements in the Woods Segment:
- Two day Paranormal Study.
- Recordings of strange sounds similar to the cries and laughs of little kids from the first film.
- During the night film strange stills of running children will be seen from distance by the crew.
- Sudden appearance and disappearance of the Parr House (in the same way of the Bachelor’s Grove legend) and screams of Michael Williams, Heather Donahue and Joshua Leonard will be heard near the Parr foundation.
- The four people crew gets out of the woods 5 am of the second investigation day after stickmen appear near the site in which James Donahue was camping.
- Suddenly news coverage of the findings appears to screen. Including stills of the film recorded in the woods.
- BLACK SCREEN
- SILENCE, then Antonio Cora’s “The Cellar” is heard.
- Photos of three naked individuals and police video footage of that scene.
- BLACK SCREEN
- IN WHITE LETTERS: Statement of the Burkittsville Sherriff Office
- On November 15th, 2018, three persons were spotted at the Black Rock Road. They appeared aged, with an oily substance all over their bodies, confused and with their clothing shredded. The police department, after DNA tests, concluded that those people were in fact the three student filmmakers that were missing on October 21st, 1994.
