This is particularly an urban legend, as it's a true story. You can Google the incident, it's pretty straight forward but it's creepy af. What do you guys think happened?

I just read up on it. Happened in February 1959. Must have been a Yeti attack. With over 7 billion people on the planet they are losing their territories and becoming aggressive. After all, one of the hikers had written down "we now know that snowmen exist" ..
Could have been military bombing exercises. One theory explained that those particular weapons would damage a person internally but not externally.
It could have been the snow witch.
I guess we'll never know for sure. Spooky dooky.

I had never heard of the story until I ran across an article in Beyond Magazine a few years back. I definitely enjoy the theories and the story itself. I agree that it could have been the military, but I always hope that there is more to it than that.
