Ed has recently done an interview on Reddit and has answered a whole variety of questions regarding The Blair Witch Project, some of which, haven't been asked before. There is some really interesting ones regarding Blair Witch 3, Ed's views on Book Of Shadows, how the actors used to argue on set and some of the filming techniques/marketing done during the films production! Read the interview here :- www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/th9i8/i_am_eduardo_sanchez_director_of_the_blair_witch/Don't expect a lot of information regarding Blair 3 though, he stated at some point in this interview that production on the film will begin "Maybe this year, maybe never", so if you want to keep your hopes up for the third film, skip that part.

The question of an Elly Kedward prequel has been answered.
Ed wants it badly but Lions Gate holds the rights. He needs permission first. He's not getting it.
This movie may never be made.

It really is horrible reading answers like that, but this does pretty much confirm that we aren't getting the Elly Kedward prequel anytime soon. If ever.

Is there any way that Ed could do a BW3? Instead of the Elly prequel? And why on earth would Lions Gate not want to make a sequel to a world famous horror film and have their part in a popular franchise?

And why on earth would Lions Gate not want to make a sequel to a world famous horror film and have their part in a popular franchise? There isn't much information about BW3 at all, infact, if there was a third Blair Witch film, it would not be titled as the third, as Book Of Shadows isn't the true sequel to the original. Ed doesn't have permission at the moment to create the Elly Kedward Prequel, and there's a whole host of problems with making Lionsgate realize how much potential a new BW film could have. Ed mentioned that he needs to make another blockbuster hit to prove to Lionsgate that a third BW film would be worthwhile. Otherwise, they aren't going to buy it.

Tbh, I've tried to deal with the fact that we most likely won't get a third film (even though, it hurts ) I'm just happy that they are still talking about it, which gives me some hope for the franchise to continue hopefully in one way or another.

Even if it is the continuity of the Woods Movie series, at least the legend can still carry on. But even that isn't looking hopeful at the moment.
