Any theories on what their purpose is or why there were so many of them in the woods? It's never really been fully explained.

Good point. Think it was just a way of the witch marking her territory or an official sign that you are now be haunted by the Blair Witch. Or just put for the use of creepy "voodoo sh**".

;D Hey Guys...I'm new on this website, but I've been a major fan of the BWP for a long time now.I've Played all the games, watched both movies, and watched the curse of the Blair Witch. In case you're wondering, The Twana [Stickman or Stick Indian] is a ritual used for dark magic. In the water were Elly Treacle Was Drowned (Supposedly by The Blair Witch) were Twana floating down the river. The animals drank the water and died from illness. Long before that and continuous after that, There were Twana all in the forest to Curse anyone Who dare go into the woods to Tappy Creek. They are basically a cult ritual used for bad luck and witches dark practices.

''Discovered by a local Eremite, Eilís is rescued and returned to health in a makeshift cottage. It is under his discourse that young Eilís is exposed to the ancient tradition of Transitus Fluvii and the primal custom of Twana, where it is believed one can obtain multiple planes of reality.''
''Aberrant and delusional, Eilís creates stick figures from branches of trees in methodical fashion, screaming the torment she endured as a child impaled to her father’s decomposing body.''

Hmm well, then one would think that the effect or balance would possibly be disrupted or affected. Or it would just piss off the one that created them

A person I watch on YouTube who does a lot of film analysis has an interesting take on the stickmen in the film:
I can just imagine Ben Rock being inspired by the gate and the appearance of the woman. As a little in-joke that only he is aware of that, at least to him, Mary Brown is the witch, and it's secretly shown by common expectations of witch-like appearances and the likeness of the stickmen to the gate.
