The franchise popularity has decreased a lot since the last thing we heard about the movie.
Some were really hyped up when they kind of announced BW3. But nothing has happened since... what? 2000? There was not BluRay edition nor DVD special for the 10TH Anniversary of the BWP. Bad move, i suppose.
Now we have some rumours about a BW3 coming along next year but those are just rumours. So i'm wondering if you think there should be a third movie and if they should release something for the anniversary, which is unlikely to happen.
Is Blair Witch done for the movie marketing? Do they think a third movie wouldn't work because it's related on witches? What do you expect?
Time keeps passing.

I think after that sorry excuse for a sequel came out (sorry guys, but BW2 blew chunks), it pretty much killed the franchise. When it comes to a sequel to a documentery style horror, thats probely one of the worst things that could happen. (That's also why i wouldn't have much faith in "Rec 2", which will probely turn out to be "Quarantine 2", can't these people learn thier lessons the first time?!), because when you do, theres no way to make the original connect properly with the sequel and make it scary. They had to make TBWP "only a movie" in the reality of BW2, to make the legend seem more real when in reality it seemed more fake than before therefore killing the franchise. One of the strict rules in Hollywood should be "DO NOT MAKE A SEQUEL TO A DOCUMENTERY STYLE HORROR FILM" because if you do, you'll kill the franchise. Now as for rereleasing it on DVD and bluray, yes with "the Curse of..." just like before PLUS 3 extra scenes along with the scene with the 3 in the tent (with Josh with his face covered) one of the other extra scenes would be the extra one from "Sticks & Stones" video and the one you see on FX when it showed there (when Heather says "at the very least, i'm gonna go down with the camera rolling.", and the one i found and posted on here from YouTube with all three arguing (the other 2 vids are just with Heather and Mike).

We haven't reached the end of the road just yet. There are things up ahead that will make the waiting all worth it.

If they ever figure out away to ressurect the witch, thatd be great, but all i can say, in hindsight, the sequel killed it. If your only choice is not to have the second one connect with the first one, then that's enough to give you a hint, "maybe there shouldnt have been a sequel to begin with." A prequel, more or less wouldve been nice, but now i'm a bit skepticle about that. TBWP, (with support from "Curse of.." or "Stick & Stones" [perferbly the later cause of that extra footage with Heather and Mike]) sorta stood on it's own. we really didnt need any sequel. I think without the sequel, the legend probely wouldve made a little more sense and alot more unsettling.

technically we didn't get a sequel. We got a corporate cash in attempt. Ask Dan, he'll tell you.

technically we didn't get a sequel. We got a corporate cash in attempt. Ask Dan, he'll tell you. I wouldn't doubt it. With "Jaws" it took three sequels to sink that sucker, while in "Blair Witch" franchise, it took one. It's like they skipped 2 and 3 and straight towards "The Revenge" on BW.

No, I don't think it's done just yet. Sure, the sequel stank up the place, but that's because of corporate greed, the creators didn't actually make it. There are still fans beside us out there. It's been ten years, half a generation, younger people will find out.
Don't count out the lone filmmaker, entering the woods with a couple of cameras and a small bit of money in his back pocket....

I read somewhere that a remake was in the process in 2009. I can't say the sources are totally reliable and things change constantly. Obviously, I hope this is nothing but just a big rumor.
While I love The Blair Witch Project, I honestly would rather not see anything else released. Definitely not because I'm "done" with it or have lost interest, but just because the best has been done. That's my personal opinion as of now. If anything else is released, I'd be curious and of course look into it. Heck, I already gave BW2 a chance. To me, nothing can be much worse than that. *knock on wood*
I just wish there was more of a following for The Blair Witch Project these days so fans like ourselves could see new merchandise every now and again. There's just not enough out there. Not that I need a flood of random merch, but a simplistic shirt in my size would be nice.

Yeah I remember posting something about that a while aback. Read on a couple of sites that some Scottish filmmaker was making somethin that was bein tagged as a remake of TBWP. Not much details have been released since.

I don't think The Blair Witch is done with there are plenty of fans out there still keeping the original alive but not having some kind of sequel or prequel doesn't help the franchise in terms.

As a lot of people have said, the legend of The Blair Witch and all its related stories carry on in our minds, imaginations and boards like this. But will we ever get a new feature film carrying on the story/stories? I think not. WoodsMovie was pretty much our last hope in getting never before seen footage, and even that's gone down the pan.

I just got into the film but I feel the pain you guys are talking about. I'm a HUGE fan of the film Cloverfield and we've been waiting for a CF sequel, prequel, ANYTHING since 2008.

Personally, I hope its not done and that it can continue, even just through the internet, but even things like WoodsMovie seem to have just been discontinued.

I heard rumours a few years ago that a Cloverfield sequel/prequel was in the works. What's happened with that? Has it been officially cancelled by JJ? We've been waiting for some new BW related anything for almost ten years now!

It hasn't been confirmed either way. Whenever JJ, Matt Reeves, or Drew Goddard are asked their respones is the same. It has to be a good original idea worth doing and we all want to do one but we are very busy with all our seperate projects.

I think it's pretty much the same with Ed and the Blair Witch team. They're all doing their own thing now, which makes a sequel to the BW further and further away. I would've thought Lionsgate would jump at the chance of a sequel, but obviously not. It's all Paranormal Activity nowadays.

To me personally, the first and original BWP is the only one worth mentioning and keeping alive. It's too genuine and impressive to let die.

For the movie market it may be dead unless someone can bring back the franchise. But to the fans, the ones that have made this film where it is today...like the witch...out well NEVER die
