While I know the three students did not shoot their documentary in Burkitsville, I am curious to know where exactly they got lost in the woods according to the storyline. I looked up Burkitsville on google maps, and to the west is a big stretch of woods, but it doesn't appear to be that wide- just over a mile wide at it's biggest point. It seems hard to believe that they could get so lost in this size of woods, especially with all the roads around that they could have run into. Or did they get lost a bit up north and to the east where the woods are bigger?

Yeah you're right, it is just a fictional movie of course and it does say they were in the woods "near" Burkittsville so it could have been anywhere

There is no Black Hills forest in Maryland. It's fictional. The film was shot in a state park. Two of them actually. Seneca Creek and Patapsco Valley State Park to be exact.
