I already don't like the sound of this. Reboot? No thank you. The original is perfect. And not involving any of the people who understand what made the first one work. I'm getting that BoS feeling. I'll go see it of course, no matter how excrementally bad it is. I'm compelled to watch anything and everything BW. But I have zero expectations based on what I've read so far.
I hope I'm wrong. Maybe this will be the best one yet. We'll see.
I'll add a section for the new movie once a title is announced.

Feeling pretty much the same, though the vibe I'm getting isn't so much Book of Shadows as it is Blair Witch (the 2016 movie). It will probably be another overly produced slick production that pretends to be found footage but is filled with pretty actors pretending to improv and act natural, every line sounding rehearsed. And just like every other found footage rip-off over the past 25 years, the camera will always be pointing at just the right thing at just the right moment, perfectly focused but with a little fake CGI blur added to pretend to be authentic. Throw in a bunch of unnecessary jump scares with sound effects that make no sense while you're at it. (A person showing up in the frame doesn't make a "BOOM" sound, people.)
Yeah, I'm cranky.

Tis a shame that you are probably dead on on what this will be. It will be a cash grab for the mainstream movie goer and give the die hard fans virtually nothing to get excited about. I really hope the assholes in charge of this franchise at least have the decency to give us some good new extras on a 25th anniversary release...but I am not going to hold my breath.

I couldn't hate this enough. When the 2016 was announced, I was naive enough to think this is what I've waited on. At first, I would've loved any awful cliche horror movie but on multiple re-watches, it only falters further and further. With the new news of the original cast and crew coming out, I can't help but feel extra bitter.

I remember everyone gettin' on my ass for saying 2016 was gonna suck and be a generic horror movie. But now you can rest assured it will just be a woke hunk of garbage with trans characters, strong female leader and the cast being "diverse" and the Witch being a White man.

Not gonna happen. When the first trailer for the fallout show came out my very first thought was what kind of wokeness they'd shove into it, they most certainly did although it wasn't smash you in the face with it, it was absolutely there.
You're not gonna get a proper follow up or reboot or whatever. It's just gonna use the name and turn it into a scream knockoff and it'll be another decade before they crap out something else with the name on it. 2 mediocre sequels didn't exactly set box office records, I honestly don't even know why they're doing this. Most people don't even remember this movie let alone its sequels. I hate to say it, but most of the people who did are too old or dead now to give a shit.

It's probably a bit early to start bashing this project. It's just that what we've heard so far isn't promising. I'll reserve the right to flame it into oblivion once I've seen it. We could all be very wrong. It might turn out good. And if it is, I'll be the first to say so. But the studios don't seem interested these days in actually giving the customers (fans) what they want. It's more about churning out bland product than being entertaining or creative. Hollywood is dying from self-inflicted wounds right before our eyes. I'm actually looking forward to AI-generated scripts. Can't be worse than what the current crop of "writers" are coming up with. This is turning into a rant. I'll stop now  |

I don't pretend to understand how acting contracts work but I'm pretty sure LG has no legal obligation to do any of that. Negative publicity might nudge them in that direction since this is getting serious press coverage. We'll see. I'm all for people getting fairly compensated for the work they do. Again, not sure what the actors signed when they took the job. I'd also love to see involvement of people from the original that know what works instead of bringing in new people every time. I'd like to see a cameo (or three!) in the new film with the original actors. That would rock hard. If they could work something into the story where one or all three reappear after going missing for 30 years. But they said reboot and not sequel. Still... Rei has done a few comic cons now (as Heather Donahue) so it seems she's not as opposed to things BW as she once was. So there's that. |

Also, she legally changed her name in 2020. We can refer to the character as Heather but the person is Rei Hance. Let's be respectful. |

I was surprised cause I followed Rei’s page that I can only guess was self help/improvement and spiritual stuff which helped her to no end so good for her! So I really didn’t expect her to be back on the conventions as Heather.
Josh put a post on Instagram with an interview that referenced the fact that the new BW news came out only a while after they’d all done a con together (Myrick included) and it kinda brought up all wounds as well as positive memories etc.
