In the scene of the "Newly Discovered Footage" it is revealed that Josh crinkled up the map and then Mike kicks it into the creek. This is scene where the three of them are in the tent before they're chased out. However, if you recall in the movie, Josh said the he gave Heather back the map. Would you call this a goof? It does seem inconsistent.

no.
He was probably mis-remembering the last time he'd actually seen it.
After that he probably took it back from her again, then crinkled it up and threw it on the ground where Mike then kicked it into the creek behind him.

Probably why the scene was deleted. It didn't fit what was said previously.

um .. ok .. but no. it still works in the over all movie. There is no "goof".
Look .. if Josh had in fact given the map back to Heather as he claimed, then how did it end up on the ground to get kicked into the creek by Mike ?
Mike wasn't a map reader. So Heather would have never given the map to Mike again for any reason.. Because like Mike said "this is Greek to me .. So I'm putting my trust in you that you know where we're going"
Sometimes people mis-remember and get things mixed up in their own minds, especially when they're angry.
Josh : "Heather, I gave you BACK the MAP!"
Mike : "I kicked that fukker into the creek yesterday!"
Josh : "Mike, are you kidding !?"
Later :
Mike : "in my defense about the map, YOU crinkled it up and threw it on the ground ... I kicked it in the creek. That's what happened"
The real guilty party to the map getting lost in the first place is Josh.
Obviously he'd forgotten that he had actually balled it up and threw it on the ground when he was pissed off about it the day before.
But as Mike said "that map wasn't doing s h i t all day!" -- or any day for that matter.
And even if it hadn't been kicked into the creek they would have continued walking in circles.

It would be a goof if both scenes were used in the film. They are not. So there are no conflicting statements.

What?
If there's any goof it's in the theatrical version, because as I pointed out ..
Josh mis-remembered the last time he had the map in his hands and what he did with it. It is the only possible explanation.
Including the tent scene actually gives a better idea of what happened with the map, while the theatrical version does not.
"Well I don't have it. So one of you had to have taken it." -- Heather
Nobody took it from her. It's just that nobody actually gave it back to her.
It got dropped on the ground. And kicked into the creek.

nope, not yet. Because after: somehow it ended up in the ghost house, upstairs, in the hallway, next to a door.
