Alright, so, we know we're not getting a new movie, but we are going to be getting some treats for the tenth.
In the meantime, let's take a trip down memory lane and reflect on how we all got turned onto this. When and how you furst heard about it and how it affected you.
You start.

I first learned about the Blair Witch project from an early theatrical poster at the Rio (kind of a mall with a theatre) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. At that point I had no idea what to make of it because I lived in MD and hadn't heard anything about kids going missing!
Went home and downloaded the trailer and was immediately hooked. I'm into the paranormal and the occult and that trailer was just amazing.

The tv spots and teaser trailers led me to the website. The film opened in limited release and was not showing where I lived. I drove to another state to see it opening weekend. Then later, when it came to my hometown I watched it two more times, 2 nights in a row. Then came the message boards and chat rooms. And sleepless nights dreaming about dark basements and ghostly witches.
Thus began the ten year journey that has led me here to this interesting patch of woods...

I saw the trailer before some other movie that I don't even remember. I thought wow this looks like a horror movie that doesn't use the old tired forumla of the killer that dies but then comes back to life because he can't die. Then I found the website saw the movie, bought it when it came out on vhs, the burketsville 7 vhs, & a blair witch movie poster. I love originality.

I remember hearing the trailer on the radio first and was immediatly intrigued. I downloaded the trailer and started to research the myth to the point where i pretty much new it wasn't real. My buddy came over one day telling me he had seen it and it was something I needed to check out. A few of us ended up catching the midnight show that night. It was a pretty empty theater which was the perfect environment. Right from the beginning the film had me completely immersed, everything felt so real. I dreaded the night scenes and felt for each of the characters. In fact because of the POV I felt like I was one of the characters. By the time the film ended my jaw was on the floor. I remember thinking I don't know if I had ever seen a more frighting film. That night I actually had to double check the locks on my doors in case the Blair Witch was outside? I couldn't rationalize it but I still did it.
I was a big Horror fan growing up but the 90's really slowed down my passion for it. After Blair Witch I wanted to catch up on everything I missed. I wanted to replicate the feeling I got from this film. Sure there has been some great horror films throughout history but I truly feel This film stands side by side with the best the genre has to offer.

Today is my 10th aniversary 8/18/99. Heard about it on Siskle and Ebert, but i think that Gene had already died by then. Really hot that day. Theater was one of those crappy concreate bunker types.

I remember it was sometime in the early months of 2001. I was searching for chatrooms on AOL. I happened upon the Blair Witch Project Forum. I had no idea what that was but I entered the site. I remembered the preview for the movie that they claimed it was real footage (kinda like reality tv), and that they were missing. That was a really good pitch for me and I was drawn to find out more. So I met some really wonderful people on this website, some who are still here and some who are not - although I wish they were - I met Tweek, Lunasea, J, and so many more wonderful people who made it a really cool place to visit and explore all possibilities. I guess it's become like an extended family.

I am convinced I saw a snippet on Scifi's Sightings a year before I heard about anywhere else (can anyone confirm this?). They didn't say it was a movie or anything they passed it off as something real.. They said it was a "developing story",showed either stock footage or footage from the movie, and said they would update us when more info was available. I never saw another thing about it on Sightings. Then about a year later I started hearing buzz right after Sundance on the internet. From there on I was all over everything I could find.
Memories...like the corner of my mind

This was the first and the last movie that has not let me sleep and have one of the scariest nights of my life.
And after that, nightmare galore.

I remember having a dream about Heather.
And being trapped in the park down the street with her. It was weird, but she was hot. ;D

I learned about Blair Witch, let's see, somewhere early in the year. I looked it up before, but that didn't really lead to anything. After reading all of the tie-in sites and such, I began to get interested. I searched all over for it and couldn't find it. Finally, I found it at Dailymotion. And the rest is history.

I remember my first getting acquainted with The Blair Witch Project quite well. In fact, out of every movie I've seen in the theater, I recall my experience with The Blair Witch Project to be the most memorable.
I had just wrapped up a year of college and I remember being at a friend's cabin and seeing a commercial/tv spot trailer for Blair Witch. Just black and white flashes, a woman (Heather) screaming and then the title. Short, sweet and it left me totally curious.
After seeing the trailer various other times, I remember hanging out with a close friend and we were talking about The Blair Witch Project with some of her family who had seen it. I remember them pondering as to how to explain what they had seen and they couldn't. They simply said in the end "just go see it."
There was nothing to do but to just go see this random looking little movie with my close friend. So in August, we went to the closest theater at the time (two even more local theaters have been built since) and found seats. The movie had been out for a bit and there was still a good crowd going for evening shows. In fact, the theater was fully packed and I am sure every seat was taken.
With that said, I remember feeling a bit nauseous with the shaking of the camera, but I was fully engrossed. The odd part...I felt as though I was completely alone in that packed theater. Not one person in there so much as sneezed or make any other sound. It was also nice that this was also before most people had a cell phone or had the ability to text. Just wow...a packed theater with dead silence? That had never happened prior or after my Blair Witch Project viewing.
I absolutely loved the ending, with there not being credits. I remember sitting there after the lights came on, looking around at the rest of the audience...all of us in thought, which soon turned into a buzz of discussion soon after. Everyone giving their opinion, analyzing, just all enthusiasm.
On a random and odd note, I received a very bizarre voicemail from someone I didn't know, who threatened me, cursing a few times. I would have thought this person would know better after hearing me on the voicemail message? I deleted it and didn't think much of it, but still...to receive something like that while I was watching that movie...weird, lol.
I only saw The Blair Witch Project in theaters once and I'm happy I chose to do that. The novelty of that initial experience might have worn off.
I never believed in The Blair Witch Project but I fell in love with the fact that the real names of the actors had been used. I was impressed by the genius marketing...everything.
Over the years, I was shocked at the amount of people who turned on the movie. The amount of hate was unbelievable...still is. Sure, parodies I can totally understand and they are fun because even I made one with friends, but to say it's one of the worst movies ever...that Heather Donahue won a Razzie and her life has been threatened...all because of The Blair Witch Project?! People are downright crazy.
I will always defend The Blair Witch Project. I love and respect it so much for its simplicity and realness. There aren't many horror flicks out there that use the less is more tactic, where subtlety really does work best. This little movie is the only movie that ever truly scared me. The only movie that forced me to leave the light on and keep me up awhile.
