So at the Microsoft Show at E3, a Blair Witch video game was announced.
Trailer
Gameplay/Interview
Synopsis It’s 1996. A young boy disappears in the Black Hills Forest near Burkittsville, Maryland. As Ellis, a former police officer with a troubled past, you join the search. What starts as an ordinary investigation soon turns into an endless nightmare as you confront your fears and the Blair Witch, a mysterious force that haunts the woods…
Game is set to come out August 30th so we will get our hands on it soon.
What do you all think? I have some concerns with lore consistency, especially considering the fact that in the interview they don't mention working with anybody involved in any of the films creations.

I'm excited. I heard that the game was set in its own universe, so I'm worried it won't have much to do with the movies at all or any of the established lore or expand on it. I'm afraid it's just another generic horror game with the Blair Witch title slapped on for recognition.
Regardless, I am excited and have high hopes despite my concerns.

I doubt there will be any references to the movies. Looks like one of those "walk around and look at stuff" games. Know what I mean?

Another Interview & More Gameplay
My concerns are only growing. I'm beginning to feel the most amount of research the put into this game is watching the trailer for the first film. They keep mentioning the universe but then have no real specifics, not one mention of Kedward, Parr, or even the original trio.
It dose appear to be a walking simulator as you guys have mentioned, so it should be chalk full of story, but what is really the point if we can't trust the story were are told to be even remotely accurate to the larger cannon. And it is not like the older expanded universe stuff you could sort of twist into continuity, like the other games and stuff. The event seems to be too big and too recent to have just been neglected in the lore, especially considering it is only two years after the events of Project. Should have had this story set either in present day, in the 1920s or 1960s, long enough before or after the Parr event were two missing people could be shrugged off as unrelated to the larger story.
Or better yet, should be the story of the search party to find Robin Weaver that end up dead on Coffin Rock, yes I know that was partly the basis of the second game, but that would at least be a lore consistent scenario that could make an interesting game in this style.
This all being said I have already preordered and will play on release.

Looks interesting enough to me. I do have concerns, but they're pretty much the same as what other people here have brought up.

This developer did another game called Layers of Fear. The gameplay looks a lot like this. I suspect this game was already in the works and they slapped the BW name on it. Supposed to be some sort of combat system in this game but not the traditional sort. Whatever that means. I'll still look at it but I'm not expecting much.
