Just got back from seeing it. Not an empty seat to be seen. I wish BW had drawn those kinds of crowds. I will do a spoiler-filled post later, still collecting my thoughts on it. I will say that I enjoyed it and don't understand what all the online bitching is about. But then I'm not a die hard fan who worships the original trilogy. Those people are likely not happy.

Ok here we go. A good movie overall but not without flaws. I give the director props for going against expectations and not just remaking Empire, which many expected considering TFA was basically a remake of ANH. They took all the setups of TFA and either threw them away or went the other way with them. All those fan theories from the last two years were WRONG. Loved Luke's get-off-my-lawn scene when he just tosses the lightsaber and walks away. Who are Rey's parents? She's not a Skywalker, not a Kenobi. She's "nobody". Take that, fanboys! Nice fight between ReyLo and the red guards. The space battles were sweet as well. We learn a great deal about the Luke/Ben rift. So Luke tried to kill him. Very un-Jedi like behavior there. Force ghost Yoda calls down lightning! Nice. Stupid Porgs are there just to sell toys. Finn continues to be the Jar Jar of this series. His whole subplot and the casino thing could have been cut out. The Silver Stormtrooper Phasma was a wasted character. Dies stupidly and we learn nothing more about her. Same with Snoke. They build him up as the big baddie in TFA and then he's just DEAD? We don't learn any more about him. Leah Force Flying in space? Give me a break! Lamest thing EVAH. It was nice to see Fisher in her last role though. Chewie was barely in this movie. Not enough wookie in this episode! Poe is... Poe. They made Hux into a bad joke. Guess he's Kylo's bitch now. Rey continues to Mary Sue her way through these films. Practically no training and she levitates all those big rocks? Riiiight. And she's suddenly an expert with a lightsaber? Staff fighting and sword fighting are quite different. Did anyone catch that the old Jedi books were on the Falcon? When Finn is getting a blanket for Rose we see them in a drawer. Rey, you sneaky thief you! So the First Order is chasing down the Resistance until they run out of gas? Are those all the First Order ships? How about putting a few IN FRONT of the ones you're chasing? Surround them. Battle over. Shorter movie. Luke's Force Skype or whatever that was? He died from that? So if you use too much Force at one time it kills you? Since when? That's all that comes to mind right now. Not sure where episode 9 goes from here. I need coffee Yes Anarchist. Luke dies. You called it. A point for you.

I think Disney killed off Luke so they won't have to deal with the actor anymore. Who is clearly unhappy with what they did to his character.

A question about the Knights of Ren. They are mentioned in TFA but not in TLJ. I'm assuming they are the students of Luke that joined Kylo. Or maybe they are the Red Guards? This is one of many setups in TFA that are left unanswered in the new movie. Did Snoke train them as well? How many are there? Could Snoke have had more than one apprentice? He wasn't a Sith so the Rule Of Two may not apply.

I enjoyed TLJ and TFA. But I don't have the nostalgia baggage that some fans do. In order to keep making these Disney has to cut the cord and break away from what has come before. TLJ does that. Like ripping off a bandaid. You can't keep rehashing the Luke Skywalker story forever. Nostalgia is fine. Rewatch the original films to your heart's content. These are new stories set in that same world. Enjoy them for what they are, I say.

"We are the PORG. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."

I see where TLJ has made $1 Billion worldwide. That should made Disney happy at least.

The more I think about it, the less I like the Rey character. There's no real development there. She excels at everything she does with no training or struggle. She's never flown the Falcon, yet she does all those evasive maneuvers in TFA. Flys it better than Han does. Uses the Jedi mind trick with zero training. Beats Kylo, Luke's apprentice, in a lightsaber fight. Again, no training. Just picks it up and can instantly fight like a Jedi. Jedi training starts at a young age and takes years to master. Rey just instantly knows all. MARY SUE. At least Finn follows something that resembles the hero's journey, at least in TFA. Just a cowardly nobody trooper trying to run away who ends up joining the Resistance. In the new film he's just in the background being led around by Rose. And he's denied the chance to sacrifice himself to save his friends, an act that would redeem the Finn character in my eyes (and rid us of him in the next one). But nooooo. Stupid Rose. I want her dead most of all. The character serves no purpose.
Rey should go Dark Side and Kylo should kill her. Then trip and impale himself on that stupid oversized red saber. That would please me. So of course it won't happen.

Her overbite gets me hot now. I've heard Rey referred to as a "toothy bint". Never heard that phrase before. Sounds British. Space bombers. Where there's no gravity. How the heck do the bombs drop? So a ship will sit still and let you drop bombs on it? Since when? Only in Disney Wars.

Each bomb contains its own artificial gravity. I guess .. If the bombs are guided somehow then they are missles. That can be fired from far away. Another thing. The Holdo maneuver. Going to light speed through another ship. If that's possible then why not do it sooner? Use a small ship with a hyperdrive, put an expendable droid at the controls, and take out the enemy ships. Easy. Another plot hole revealed.
