The Mothman legend of Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
Many strange sightings for one year leading up to the collapse of a city bridge and the deaths of 46 people.
A flying man with giant wings and glowing red eyes.
Since 2002 Point Pleasant celebrates an annual Mothman festival. For some reason they are proud of this folklore heritage. They even designed and built a Mothman statue to display in the city.
So I think the town of Burkittsville, Maryland should begin an annual Blair Witch festival. They should embrace their new folklore heritage, be it fiction or otherwise.

I've seen the movie. Burkittsville hates the whole Blair Witch thing. They would never do that.

Have you taken a recent town poll?
If they do not comply willingly then we shall force them.

Proud to an extent. I think that most of the town's people didn't want the movie filmed there. But I think they have realized that it can bring money to Pt. Pleasant. I've been there three times. It is a nice little town. But like most little towns, they fall out of sync with the rest of the world.

So Mothman was filmed there? The actual place. I assumed they shot it elsewhere.

Let me rephrase that. I think it was 50/50 with people wanting it filmed there. They ended up filming it in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. I think due to the tax breaks. The also filmed the My Bloody Valentine remake in the same town.
