Saw this long awaited baby.
While it's very flawed (though I have no idea how the movie should've been fleshed out to fully satisfy our long time craving), I want to believe that the movie does actually leave a lot of things open to interpretation.
I do not think they wanted to go obvious, the directors being fans of the first one. But all the "yep you will see the witch" turned to "no, that's not the witch" nonsense has hardened my opinion towards this effort.
I like the theory of this evil playing completely with your perception of what you think it is. Clever, if it was intended that way. James didn't see Lisa's disjointed Elly; he blinked at this weird Heather/Hairy Elly combo.
I really hated the groan added to the original footage of Heather's takedown. Doesn't make sense, continuity wise. I like the idea of this entity just showing off how hard it can fuck you up just because, but again, maybe it's all to be taken the way it's displayed.
Marketing wise, they really messed up from the reveal trailer.
It isn't what I expected. It has made me appreciate "The Blair Witch Project" even more. What a gem.

I agree with much of what you said. It's a flawed film, no doubt. But I liked more than I didn't like. As for the "groan", Heather wanted no part in the new film and the filmmakers respected her wishes. Didn't use her last name, her image, or her voice. So they had to use a different sound with that clip from the first film.

I liked it, didn't hate it. Loved the ending. My two and only two complaints were to many *jump scares* and seeing...it! Other than that, It answered some questions but asked more. I hope this continues.

Very generic. Very draggy. Very CGI what's it. No. No, I didn't care for it. Too many plot holes, too many missed opportunities. Too much not explained. Like drone batteries don't last for squat, yet it's still up in a tree with it's lights on and blades spinning who knows how long after it crashed. IT... I knew it'd be some generic CGI monster. No different than the one in stranger things. What a joke. They ruined the entire mythology.

What a joke. They ruined the entire mythology. They didn't ruin anything. This was so generic so it doesn't matter. I heard that this was like a remake only at the end it was awesome. So when I saw it and the chick was in the tunnel I was thinking that now will the awesome part begin, and then she just end up like before...and the movie went IMO nowhere. The beginning was kind of good, didn't like that they went out partying though, felt like the opening of area 51. I didn't like the black dudes reaction to the flag either. No politics please. The use of a camera that recorded on dv-tapes was awesome. That is how you cater to the fans, then go into a new direction. Don't remake scenes of the original only amp everything up to eleven. We have already seen the original, now give us something new. Give this new blair witch a reason to exist other than the studio making money. And the whole "I need to find my sister"-plot should have been abandoned for something better. Do yourself a favour and watch another found footage that was released a couple of years ago, Exists, made by our beloved Haxan team. Compare that movie to this new blair witch and you will see that you don't only need money to make a movie, you need talent (if you don't just want to make a quick buck that is). The only bad movie Haxan has made is Seventh Moon, but that one started out really strong then unfortunate went cold. I don't agree with people saying that bos was worse than this new bw movie. Bos imo had a purpose and the ending was original, it is also pretty good..but that is debatable I suppose. I wonder if the dvd will have some interesting deleted scenes, that were deleted for pacing, that could help flesh out story. Can a fanedit make it better? Maybe. Can it be saved? In my opinion, no.

And who's arm reached out from the hole? What was that guy eating for months? How did he still have battery power? I hate that they teased Heather survived only for it to be a temporal anomaly. What happened to everyone?
But the worst part remains the CGI monster.
I'm pissed off.

I want to slap whoever wrote this. The only thing it got right was the house. They did a killer job with it.

I want to make them cross the same log forever. I want them to walk in circles and end up back at the same place forever.
You really had to F up to make BOS a better movie. At least it didn't have horrible CGI monsters that ruin the mythology.
What were they thinking???

Who can we blame for this? Lionsgate? Ed and Dan? Adam Wingard? Thinking back on it, it's worse than I thought after having just seen it. It's insulting really. This period of soft reboots needs to end. I hope to god Blade Runner 2049 isn't a soft reboot cop-out.

Robin saw floating lady. Mary saw hairy lady. James saw... people running, Lisa saw tall peek-a-boo thing.
Pacing aside, their attempt to "further" the mythology just messed things up instead of developing them. Thing is, they messed with Elly. They should've established the victim's perception shift somehow. One can think about it but it turns quite indulgent when you have to force yourself into it.

This period of soft reboots needs to end. I hope to god Blade Runner 2049 isn't a soft reboot cop-out. I think it's the studio. I mean, imagine giving the chance to do your own Blair Witch movie only "it has to be about a dude (and his friends) looking for (heather) his sister...and it also has to be a "soft remake like The Force Awakens..okay? Got that? Now go and shot my...eh your movie" I'm guessing a lot of people will not agree but here it come anyway: I'm so glad that Berlinger got to do his own movie* and not this new movie, which I'm guessing the studio first had in mind when they hired him. *okay so they made him film more stuff and re-edit the movie into something waaay worse than what was planned, but still it is not Blair Witch. If you want to experience BOS the way it was original intended, your best shot will be the fanedit. The way they went with the sequel was far better than Blair Witch was. Blair Witch was a remake done like a modern horror movie. People say that the monster in Blair Witch wasn't the witch because the filmmakers said so...okay but this I can promise you that 99,9% of the viewers will not come to that conclusion. You have to read about the movie to find that out. Imo this is just one epic fail that wasn't clever at all. Everything we "learned" in this one could be figured out in the original. The original was such a masterpiece. A modern day classic (I know it was released 17years ago so shut up now..I not that old...) the new film was just The Woods, a modern day (modern day? so a movie released 17years ago and a movie released today are both 'modern', what the...yeah shut up already...let me continue..) as I was saying this new film was just like all the other new horror films they just changed the name to Blair Witch..anyway that is how I feel. I think that this movie could have been so much better if the filmmakers was just hired to make "a third Blair Witch movie"...and then "well what are you standing around here for?! Go and make it! <shouting after them as the walking out the door> AND REMEMBER TO MAKE IT YOUR OWN!"

They could have easily shot things where you didn't see "it". Just show the characters reacting to it. That would have been enough.

Worst of all... this is all your fault, tweeker. Every bit of it. How could you let this happen???
I said I'd blame you.

I didn't realize that a hand reached out and grabbed Ashley's arm while she was reaching for the drone and that's why she fell out of the tree. Saw it three times in the theater and missed that every time. Just went by too fast. I also missed the hand reaching through the wall when Lisa picks up Lane's camera in the basement. And thanks to subtitles I now know all of Lane's dialogue in the basement. Thank you blu-ray But I still don't see no map.
