So what are some movies you can think of that leave a lot unexplained? Not just one or two things, but a good number of things, to the point in which it actually becomes quite frustrating.
Here are a few films I could think of (bold represents some major questions), please note that highlighting must be used in order to see the questions (which are quite spoilery):
The Road
-What exactly happend that decimated Earth?
-Who exactly are the man, the boy, and the other characters?
-How exactly does the man's wife commit suicide?
-Why are they traveling south? What exactly do they expect to find in the South.
-What exactly was the "fire" that they were carrying?
-What is the road that they are traveling on?
-What state(s) is the story primarily set in?
-How can food from over a decade ago still be any good?
-What is the story's timeframe? On what date and year did the "Big One" occur? (While it does give a time of 1:17am, that is all that is revealed about the timing of the apocalyptic event.)
The Shining
-Was it ghosts or cabin fever that drove Jack to madness?
-What exactly is Tony?
-Why did the "ghosts" of the Overlook want Jack to kill his family?
-Why is Jack in a photograph that dates back to 1921?
-Who was the woman in the bathtub?
-What is the meaning behind the hedge maze scene in the middle of the movie? Was Jack really looking over Wendy and Danny when he was gazing over the model of the maze?
-What exactly occurred in room 237 that caused Hollaran to forbid Danny to ever enter it?
-Is there any sort of symbolic meaning by the blood flowing from the elevators?
-Why was Danny so secretive about his gift of shining?
-How exactly does Jack get out of the pantry?
-How was Wendy able to see all those weird, freaky things at the end? Could she shine, too?
-Who was the man in the suit and the man in the animal costume in that one room?
-Was Grady's first name Charles or Delbert? At the beginning we hear that it is Charles, but Grady's "ghost" says that it is Delbert. So which one is it?
Cloverfield
-What exactly is the monster?
-What was it doing in New York City? Why was it attacking the city?
-Where exactly did it come from?
-What were those parasitic creatures that seem to fall off of the monster?
-Why exactly did Marlena explode? What was in that creature's bite?
-Does the military really kill the monster at the end?
-How does the camera survive and end up being taken as property of the US military and government?
-What exactly is that thing falling into the ocean in the last scene and what is its relevency to the monster and the story?
-What becomes of Lily?
-Do Rob and Beth survive at the end or do they die?
-What is the whole meaning behind the name Cloverfield? What significance does it hold in the film's storyline?
The Blair Witch Project
-What exactly happens to the three student filmmakers at the end?
-What exactly is the Blair Witch?
-How could that be Rustin Parr's house if it was supposedly destroyed decades ago?
-What is the meaning behind those stickmen that the "Blair Witch" uses?
-What is the meaning behind those strange occurrences that took place in the nights leading up to the end?
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
-The Nostalgia Critic sums up all of the questions perfectly:
