In an interview that was released earlier today, Eduardo Sanchez has said that The Blair Witch Project 3 is still in talks, and if it gets approved by Lionsgate, the film will start production later this year! This is truly great news, and proves that this hasn't just been pushed aside and forgotten! And Ed, I’m sure you’re sick of this question. But as late as September there was still talk of Blair Witch 3. Is that still kind of on your dance card?
ES: Yeah, we’re still talking to Lionsgate but I can’t say much more than that. We’re still toying with the idea and they’re talking to us about it. Hopefully it will be sometime this year, but it seems like every time someone asks me about the film that’s what I say.Source :- www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/28810

Yes, good news. But we've been teased with this sort of news before. Still waiting on that third film, aren't we?

VERY much so.

It's just the fact that after so long, we kind of have a date of some sort. If it gets approved, it means that the majority of the film will be completed by the end of the year! Which could mean a release date of early next year. Really hope it goes ahead.
We've all been waiting for this!

I'd expect maybe late 2013.

I'd expect maybe late 2013. If they created a backstory, just like they did for BWP and kept it up, this is also the date I would suspect for the film. Really hope they do though, it's all part of the magic. Film makers often look for the easy way out nowadays.

The Trial of Elly Kedward ..
anyway, for a new movie to attract the interest of new viewers, they need to make sure they don't include the two words "Blair Witch" in the title of the movie.
Most people would need to be sort of tricked into watching a new Blair Witch movie by not really knowing that what they're interested in seeing is actually a Blair Witch movie.
Then after walking out of the theater, they'd be like "Holy crap, that movie was cool and I had no idea it was going to have anything to do with that old movie, The Blair Witch Project".
Book of Shadows soiled the Blair Witch name for the general populace.

But surely them using the name 'Blair Witch' or 'Blair Witch Project' will help them market it much, much easier. I agree that it shouldn't be called the third one though, as Book of Shadows wasn't really a sequel.
Really looking forward to see where this goes though!

The Trial of Elly Kedward would be a perfect name for the third film.

It certainly would be! Would love to see it go ahead, but if it was too, I have the feeling we would have heard something by now.

The Trial of Elly Kedward would be a perfect name for the third film. I know they have been talking about a prequel for some time, but while I really like that name, I'm not sold on the idea of a prequel. I feel like seeing Elly's face, her past, and her story would rob the original of its suspense. I like not seeing the Witch's face and the lack of knowledge about her in the original is what helps make it work for me. However if they did a prequel focused on the people AROUND Elly, and not use Elly as the main character or show us her evil deeds.

Nope / there is a trailer for it in the "Movies that Shook the World" show, and at the end it says "This is her story".

I don't understand what Lionsgate is waiting for. They frankly have been releasing a lot of garbage recently so I think this could be their chance to release something really good. And I honestly do believe it would make them a lot of money because I have seen a lot of people, including myself, online who cannot wait for this film.

I think at this point Blair Witch 3 won't be happening until 2099.

I really hope that work can begin on the film in the next year or so, but I'm really doubting a release until at LEAST 2014/15, but I'd liked to be proven wrong.

Again? They're saying its still a possibility again? Got to the point now where I won't believe it until I'm sittin' in the theatre.

Exactly the same here, they can announce and tease all they wont. It wont be released until I watch it in the theatre.
I'm starting to think it'll never happen now, which kills me a little inside.

I think if we ever do see anything Blair Witch 3-related, I think it'll probably be of a small level. Something along the lines of The Trial of Elly Kedward continued into something more. Maybe something like an online movie or the like, because I just don't ever imagine myself walking past the theatre and seeing a stickman.

Yeah, totally agree, as long as it's still to the standard of TBWP, I'll be happy. I just don't see how a film called 'The Trial Of Elly Kedward' could do that well in the box office as at first glance, it doesn't really strike out to be anything Blair Witch related at all. Even a VOD movie with the original production team would be ideal. But to be honest, everyone who was involved in the TBWP seems busy with their own stuff now, so whether this actually EVER happens, I'm not sure.

I would be fine with it going direct-to-DVD as long as it's a good film. There have been some really good direct-to-DVD horror films like House of the Devil and Trick 'R Treat.

Yeah, totally agree, although some kind of limited Video On Demand/Cinema Showings first would be vital in drumming up publicity for the film.
