Seems like a simple question, but it really should be asked. There have been Blair Witch movies, mockumentaries, books, video games, action figures, etc. People on this site have said things like, "This is canon", or "That is not canon." Well, what is canon?
For my own purposes, I will consider anything written and/or directed by Daniel Myrick and/or Eduardo Sanchez to be considered canon. They were the ones that started it all.
However, if this is the case, then only The Blair Witch Project and Curse of the Blair Witch should be considered canon. Does that mean that D.A. Stern's books are not canon? Does that mean that Burkittsville 7 and Shadow of the Blair Witch are not canon? (These two mockumentaries were written and directed by Ben Rock). Is it also possible that Sanchez' and Myrick's other movies (i.e. Lovely Molly, Altered, and Believers) take place in the same universe as the BWP?
Just some things to think about. What are your thoughts?

I've delved into this a lot.
See my thread in the Book of Shadows forum.
You might be surprised to know that the events of "Shadow" are actually canon, but "Book of Shadows" is not -- because it's only a sensationalized re-enactment of those events.
In other words, the "Jeff Patterson case" is canon to Josh, Mike, and Heather getting lost.

But why is it canon? What makes canon canon? Why is Shadow of the Blair Witch considered canon, and The Blair Witch Files isn't? Maybe I have the wrong impression, but it seems like a story is canon when a bunch of people agree that it's canon. Correct me if I'm wrong.

what bunch of people?
THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT official mythology is :::::
Curse of the Blair Witch - The Film's Extra Footage - The Burkittsville 7 - the Dossier - the story at ellykedward.com - Shadow of the Blair Witch - ...... and quite possibly ... Wood Witch Said
but that's it. . . . not the three games, not the six comic books, not the novels. . not even The Secret Confession of Rustin Parr or Graveyard Shift.
but if you want, everything with the BW name slapped on it can be official mythology .... I guess.

(sorry to pop in randomly, I have also been wondering this and came across the boards)
but why shouldn't the games and the books be considered canon? i mean, what is the reasoning specifically? especially the secret confessions of rustin parr or graveyard shift... they're all official merchandise. i mean i certainly don't consider the todd mcfarlane action figure a canonical or actual representation of the witch for obvious reasons but that's another thing...

Because they're not.
No Ed, Dan, or Ben Rock involvement = non-canon.
