First off, I decided to come back on here after taking leave. Things were quite slow when I was last on here, but I thought I'd give this place another chance. Even if I don't post all the time, I will try to from time to time.
Second, I am aware of the thread about Harold Camping's prediction for October 21st, but as you can tell it is a different topic altogether. This poll is about opinions concerning the end-date of the Mayan Long Count Calendar, which is December 21st, 2012.
Anyway, we are seeing the production of countless books, documentaries, videos, blogs, websites, etc., that are concerning different takes on 2012, with supposed backing as to why that particular "take" is the correct one. As a result, the 2012 Phenomenon is bigger than Y2K, the 1987 Harmonic Convergence, or any other doomsday/metaphysical movement before it. Much like how the Beatles were "bigger than Jesus" during their time, but that is no longer the case thanks to today's technology and wide-range communicative networking. Of course, that is also another reason as to how and why 2012 has been gaining so much notoriety.
Here is one video I found to be pretty fascinating, though I mainly like it for how the song fits the content perfectly and how it can be used to scare naughty children into being good children (Or you can show them a "certain" movie. ).
... shortfilms
So, in your opinion, what do you think will happen?
I honestly do not know what will happen, but I believe it will most likely be a non-event like each and every single past doomsday prediction in history. I have seen several different end of the world predictions in my lifetime (1988, Y2K, 6/6/06, the May 21st 2011 Rapture) and none of them came to pass. Heck, we even have Penn & Teller and their Showtime series to thank for showing us just how bogus these apocalyptic (and metaphysical) claims are (even if their episodes were quite biased).
Of course, if anything does happen, I would like it to be some sort of spiritual event, like a rise in our consciousness. Or at the very least, have humankind be locked on the path of getting much smarter/more enlightened, so that Idiocracy doesn't become a reality.
Then again, a small sick part of me would actually like to see the world end. Mainly because I would like to have the people who have wronged me and those close to me be annihilated as they deserve. I have had to endure a lot of abuse and trauma throughout my life, and if that is supposed to be a part of the human experience, then I say "to hell with it!"
So in conclusion, I remain undecided as to what will happen, but lean towards it being a non-event.
