Elly Kedward was not evil to begin with. She was a highly misunderstood unique woman living in a time of very high levels of fear and personal insecurity and ignorance. This is the TRUE story of Elly Kedward and how she came about:
It all started in Nether Cross, England in 1706. A baby girl by the name of Annabeth Hutchison was born to Sarah Hutchison and Benedict Townsend. Neither Sarah or Benedict were married to each other, so Annabeth was raised by both of her parents under the guise of a false marriage. While very controversial at the time, they still managed to pull it off. Anyway, Annabeth was born with psychic abilities. Since her parents feared the abilities would surface sooner or later under the accusation of witchcraft, Sarah and Benedict raised their daughter under Catholic practices. Sarah herself was psychic, and is the first known ancestor in the Hutchison line to possess the ability of premonition, as well as telepathy and the ability of reading tarot and palms. Annabeth was born on October 16th, 1706.
While being raised Catholic, as a young girl at the age of ten, Annabeth was growing increasingly weary of her paranormal abilities and couldn't hide them much longer. The public people in the Nether Cross area encouraged Annabeth's parents to send her to Saint Mary's Seminary school for girls. This was a Catholic all-girl's school which later came under fire for a separate scandal involving the affair of a priest and nun. But I digress. The nuns chastized Annabeth for still having visions from time to time, and not being able to suppress them, not even with the many visits to the priests' confessional. Eventually, Annabeth became the age of fifteen, and decided at that point to move elsewhere. She set her sights on Dublin, Ireland (the area of her relative descent as she was an English-born Irish woman). There she set up life as a free woman until she was sixty-nine years of age. In the meantime, she began a career for herself as a natural healer. People thought this career was highly unusual and very mysterious, and while some accused her of unlawful deeds, some found it to be very useful.
In 1775, she immigrated to Maryland to Blair Village. It was a small community, mostly Protestant in religious status. She was the age of 69, and continued her natural healing career. This was blasphemus in the Protestant community, not just for the psychic abilities that Annabeth displayed, but because she had also been raised Catholic. The villagers of Blair accused her of being a witch in their midsts. So in order to avoid conflict once again, Annabeth ran away to Montgomery County 25 miles north of Blair, which would later become established as Burkittsville in 1824. The Black Hills Forest, Coffin Rock, and Tappy East Creek were all found in Montgomery County. Annabeth could finally live in peace by practicing her psychic abilities openly until her death in 1785, when pillagers from Blair had discovered her after many years of searching. She was executed by being burnt at the stake under false accusations of practicing witchcraft.
While links between Annabeth Hutchison to the parents of Elly Kedward have not yet been linked together, the birth of Elly is recorded as being the daughter of Joseph and Melinda Kedward. Elly was born on October 28th, 1824 in Burkittsville. She possessed the same psychic abilities that she received from her mother Melinda, a descendant of Annabeth. Elly later grew up in life and once at the age of motherhood, she had married Rustin Parr and they had three children: Nathan, Derek, and Sarah. Nathan possessed the ability of premonition, Derek had the talents for herbal healing and telepathy, and Sarah was a clairvoyant. Nathan later married Moretta Jacobs, who gave birth to Wayne, Taryne, and Duke Kedward in the late 1800s/early 1900s.
Moral of the story: Elly Kedward was not evil and was not a witch, but she was a gifted psychic who carried on a great generational legacy that is still active today. If you are wondering how I know this, it is because I am currently the most recent descendant of the Hutchison-Townsend-Kedward line.
