Personally I did not like Book of Shadows. The idea was good - the aftermath of the film's release and people's reaction to it... however I think it missed the mark. It used unknown actors, which is a great thing, but it still ended up Hollywoodized. The film studios have no qualms about taking a great script and turning it into a shell of it's former self for profit. Was there a great script to begin with, however? IMDB credits Dan and Ed with the "characters" but did they have any input into the script? Joe Berlinger has documentary experience (ala Paradise Lost) so you would think they would have included a more documentary-esque element to the film, which would have made complete sense considering it was a BLAIR WITCH PROJECT SEQUEL, the ultimate mockumentary film of all time! Dick Beebe, on the other hand, wrote the screenplay for House On Haunted Hill, which took a seriously awesome old movie and turned it into commercial crap. Inexperienced screenwriter + Screenwriter who butchered a great movie = Book of Shadows. In your opinion, would it have been better if someone else directed it? Who do you have in mind? Would it have been better if someone else wrote the screenplay? Who? Did you like the movie the way it was? Why? Let's discuss PS - I've stated before that I'm a screenwriter and an aspiring filmmaker. I take these things seriously as you can see! Not bashing anyone who made the film, just stating my opinion and starting a discussion. Just a head's up!

i loved the movie, the plot was solid, but yeah, the acting was really off at some bits.

My problem is that I'll start one screenplay then start thinking about another one and then... well, nothing gets done.

Well passion for it helps.
When I wrote mine it was all I could think about. It's still all I can think about. Even when people told me it'd never get made because of it's controversial nature It was all I could think about.

Anything that gets pushed into the commercial side of things when it's nature is not is doomed to failure.
I still think the film was average, and that it would be better the original way it was intended to be.

It was an OK movie, just shouldn't have been named what it was.

I'm not crazy about it. In fact, some of the hack-ting is down right nauseating. But I think it could have been 189 times better if the score was different, and minus the "cool" music. "Cool" music is the main problem I have with any recent horror movie. It's almost like they're purposely trying to cram as much crap into the movie as possible, like each movie is competing with the previous movie in terms of music. I hate that.
My perspective is a little skewed at the moment too because it's been a long long time since I've watched it and I dont remember very well what Ed and Dan had in mind for it originally.
I havent really thought too much about who I would have like to have seen have control over it other than Ed and Dan.
George Lucas perhaps? ;D

If George Lucas directed it... I don't even know what that would be like! Maybe a flock of fuzzy stickmen would help save the cast from the evil Blairvader If we're really going commercial... STEVEN SPIELBERG SHOULD HAVE DIRECTED BWII! Picture that. Just picture it, man. Hehehehe

I thought Blair Witch 2 was brilliant. I thought the first film was good, but the second film was revolutionary. Never before has there been a film where there is an ENTIRE hidden story that is not spelled out for the audience. When I suggested this to my friends (who hated the movie) they just said "No, it's just another generic teen horror". Then, when Donnie Darko came out (which, incidentally, is one of my favourite movies of all time), those same friends would say "Whoah, this film is SO original, it's like there's a whole hidden story in it" , and I'm like "EXCUSE ME!?".

Did I like it? Yes and no.
It's fine as a standalone film. It fails as a sequel.

Yeah, I think the main reason it got slated by a lot of people is because it WAS a sequel. The Blair Witch Project is a really good and HUGELY popular film. I think a lot of fans went INTO Blair Witch 2 expecting to hate it. If they had taken out the Blair Witch references, kept the story pretty much the same, and changed the title, it might of been better received. Probably not by me though ( the whole back-story of Blair Witch is kind of pivotal to my theory on BW2's TRUE meaning. See SECRET OF ESREVER ).

I liked the characters, the girls were all hot, Jeff and the sherrif were hilarious, and the story was unique in its own sort of way. Perhaps better as a stand alone film, but lets face it, how many ways can a sequel be made about 3 people wandering around in the woods with video cameras.

I really enjoyed the movie. But it's true that failed as a sequel... but as someone said above, what sequel would exist for 3 people who went through the forest and got lost. Maybe... The Return of them! something like "the return of the living dead"... you know... Heather's body wandering around.. Ok I quit it now.

Here's an idea for BW 3. I was never thrilled about them doing a prequel because I don't need to see them burning a witch or strapping Elly to a tree and the whole Rustin Parr deal. I'd rather see something about what Elly's doing now and what really happened to the three filmakers. The open ended closure to the movie was very cool however the movie has been out for long enough now that an explanation of some sort would be cool. It would have to be very cleverly. Maybe a cult of witches/druids/weirdos. Not like The Hills Have Eyes or Leatherface in any way, but maybe an ancient Druid cult. Erica said both she and Elly worshipped nature in BW 2. I think a prequel for BW3 has very high possibities of being extremely boring but yet, if they ever decide to do it that way, I would of course have to see it.

I really want a BW3, I don't care about special effects I'd really like a film explaining the roots of Elly, and make it scary as helll. Oh blast!, I wish this was real...

They DID explain the fate of the filmakers. In Blair Witch 2. Did ANYONE read my bit in "Secret of ESREVER"? The main character from BW2 killed them.

I thought the story was OK but could have been better. It seems a bit rushed aswell. I think if they'd of waited 2-5 years to make it and spent more time on it, it would of been better. One thing which I thought was rushed and could of been better was the suspense and the scary parts as it just wasn't scary at all.
