I'm wondering if anyone has any info on the house from the end of the movie, it was known as the Griggs house and was near some state park in Maryland. I've read a couple of posts that say its been demolished. Can anyone confirm this? I've also read that fans took pieces of the house as souvenirs. Does anyone know anyone that has visited there or took any photos? Ive searched the internet up and down and there is very little info about that house. Thats surprising considering how big that movie became and how much info there is on the internet. The best photos I found were from this site: www.duberweb.com/griggs/index.htmlThere were no threads on this topic that I could find so I thought I would create it.

Oh yeah has anyone ever noticed in the movie, on the 16mm footage you briefly see a noose i think just outside the house? You can clearly see it for a few frames. anyone know what the deal with that was?

Wouldn't it be freaking cool to live there? XD Too bad they just tore it down. It would have been cool if they had reconstructed the house (because if was falling apart) and remodeled it and turned it into The Blair Witch Museum. Yeah, that would have been cool. How many people would go there just to visit that house? A shame and a missed opportunity. Inside the house ... year before it was demolished:

Multiple sources have confirmed that not only was the house torn down, but there is virtually no evidence on the site whatsoever that it even existed to begin with.

Wow, fleetstreet, that is so weird! I've actually been there as you can see from the picture, so I know it definitely existed! I wonder why they completely covered up the site? Either, way, they should build a little bed & bath/museum where the house once stood. They could schedule weekly Blair Witch Tours to boot. Hey, why not,..if you build it they will come...ghosts included!! ;D

That would be awesome if they did that. I would definitely go. It would get a lot of business around Halloween that's for sure.

I would go no matter what time of the year it was! Wasn't the house miles away from Seneca Creek though? On that one thread with directions to Coffin Rock and such, it said the Parr house was like 38 miles away...they really moved these actors around when they made this movie! I highly doubt they walked that far...I wonder at what point in the movie it transfers from the Seneca Creek area to the area in the vicinity of the house...in any case, judging from the photos of the house before they tore it down, they NEEDED to tear it down. It was dangerous.
One more question. Does anyone know why the house was there in the first place? I dont think with a budget of $30,000 there would have been room for such a large piece of set design. So who lived in this house??

I'm sure it was just an abandoned house which had yet to be torn down when filming took place. It at one time would have just been a home for a family like any other house. I'm sure it wasn't made just for the film. Like you said they had such a small budget that they wouldn't be able to afford to build a house.
It really does look dangerous & I guess it is a good thing they got rid of it but it does suck for someone who's a fan of the film and that wanted to visit the house. I wish they did restore it but there isn't much logic in putting money into a house in the woods unless it's going to profit.

Oh don't get me wrong, I wish they hadn't torn it down either. It was such a scary looking place...I dont know if I would have been able to go in! LOL maybe I would have forced myself. I just don't understand why a family would want to build a house out in the middle of the woods. But perhaps thats a misconception...I don't know how close the house was to surrounding houses... well, whatever, I love the movie, and it wouldn't have been the same without that creepy house at the end

I guess some people just like their privacy. But then again maybe it wasn't that far into the woods, just made to look like it was.
But when you watch the movie you don't see any old road or drive-way leading up to the house which makes it seem like no one had lived there for a very long time. Well either long enough to have grass grow over any sort of path leading up to the house or the house hadn't been lived in, in a very long time, probably before there were any reasons for a drive-way. But then again a gravel path probably wouldn't take as long to cover up as a concrete path would.

Maybe the Blair Witch put the house there...so maybe it wasnt there at all! Yes, I know the movie was fake. I guess no one will ever know conclusively...I looked it up on Google, or tried rather, and found nothing about the house itself. Chances are there were houses around it, or at least close to it. But thanks for speculating with me!

The house was a short distance away from a nice neighborhood. It was in a wooded area behind an abandoned armory. The basement was basically sealed off with no stairs leading out, and the only entrance a small demolished window opening on the side of the house. It was very creepy and there was a wire bedframe in the basement and of course, the broken water heater. There were handprints and warnings of the Blair Witch throughout the walls of the tattered house. The house had three floors. The stairs were missing steps and very dangerous to climb. The kitchen had a huge hole in the middle where part of the ceiling and roof had caved in so it was a complete mess with metal pipes and bricks and concrete. The walls of the kitchen had very old decomposed wallpaper. In the top floor I did find several toy blocks still painted yellow and red. I guess the family who lived here had children. I know it must have been a very nice family home in it's hay-day but it really did need to be demolished.

Thanks for letting us know. That now answers our question. But I do have one question. Was there a driveway or a path leading up to the house? Because in the movie I don't see one. I was just wonder how long the house was abandoned. I also wonder what happened to the stairs so quickly. From the pics posted on another thread the stairs look very dangerous & you mentioned there were no stairs leading to the basement but in the movie the stairs leading upstairs and into the basement all seem intact as Mike and Heather are running up and down them. Maybe they were wrecked by visitors (vandalized) or the crew had built the stairs and destroyed them after production.

Interesting. There are some photos of the house from the 70s when it still had doors and windows. And no trees growing around it.
Strange.
