Here's the synopsis and backstory... ------------------------------------------------ SYNOPSIS The small California town of Diablo is plagued with mysterious deaths after Sheriff Robert Lopez unearths an ancient box. Legend has it that the box holds the sixteenth-century Mexican demon named Azar.
FBI Agent Gil Vega is sent to investigate the murders and joins forces with the Sheriff’s daughters, Dominique and Mary.
Together the trio descends into a nightmare world of supernatural terror in which they are pitted against the bloodthirsty Azar and forced to defend their lives with the only weapon they have left - faith. --------------------------------------------------------- BACKSTORY For years, a malevolent entity named AZAR plagued old Mexico. Eventually, the Aztec warriors, Knights of the Jaguar, captured Azar, containing him in a Mayan Shell charged with supernatural properties. Soon after, the shell was placed in a divine box and hidden in the new world. Years later, the box was hidden in Santa Peligro, a church in the coastal city of Diablo.

The original story is based on a comic book also written by the director of the film, Robert Napton.
The distributor is cutting the trailer right now. The special features on the DVD will include all kinds of cool stuff...relating to the film and the comic book.

if any of you all are in or near Modesto, CA (northern CA)...come check out the film... Modesto’s Shockerfest world premieres Robert Napton’s zombie epic THE LEGEND OF DIABLO. Writer/Director and Modesto native Robert Napton will be on hand to world premiere his soon to be released feature film THE LEGEND OF DIABLO. The 2003 edition of Shockerfest takes place in Modesto, CA, the weekend of September 26-28. THE LEGEND OF DIABLO will make its Big Screen debut on September 27, 2003 at the State Theatre, 1307 "J" Street, Modesto. The cinematography is by Neal L. Fredericks who shot the world-wide box office smash THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT and is currently seeing his recently released KILLER ME getting unanimous critical praise from horror magazines Fangoria and Rue Morgue. THE LEGEND OF DIABLO is a classic story of the battle between good and evil, with a few twists and turns thrown in along the way. Even though the film has horrific images of possession and zombies, the filmmakers say it is the equivalent of a very soft R rating and can be enjoyed by both younger and older film fans. Both Napton and Fredericks will be on hand to answer questions about their unique and exciting way of making this film. Free posters will be on hand for the audience. Tickets can be obtained at the State Theatre, 209-527-4697, the Modest Film Commission office, 1150 9th St., Modesto (209-526-5588) or can be ordered by email at Tickets@ShockerFest.com. www.shockerfest.com for all the festival info. Other Shockerfest highlights include a Dinner With the Stars salute to veteran actor Kevin McCarthy, autograph signings by numerous genre folks (including McCarthy and his HOWLING co-stars Dee Wallace Stone and Belinda Balaski, David Hess, Felissa Rose and many others), filmmaker presentations, an awards show and all-day screenings of feature and short horror films.

you should be able to find the dvd on the shelves at blockbuster and hollywood video...and the smaller chains also picked up the film...
the international distributor did very well with the title at the Cannes film market in May...
so we are preparing to do a sequel...hopefully we will go into production before the end of the year...
