Commoon misconception. There were no Futhark symbols in Rustin's house. It's all Tranitus Fluvii (a lesser known magical language used by witches).
The genesis of that was this -- I had a friend who was into wicca, and she referred me to a guy in Orlando who knew about more arcane things like the cyphers and languages of witches. He told me about the book "Magical Alphabets," a great resource for anyone researching the codes and semiotics of magic (or, for the Crowleyites, "Magick").
Tranitus Fluvii, as well as other similar (Hebrew-derived) alphabets were laid out in there, but we had a special affinity for TF because it was reported to have been used by witches.
A quick aside about Hebrew-derived mysticism -- Hebrew, the basis of Kabalah, is a great font of mystical and occult language. The cheesy magician term "Abracadabra" is actually derived from a hebrew spell that means "Perish like the word." In "Burkittsville 7," Kyle Brody is writing "Abracadabra" in Tranisus Fluvii in the scratchy, unused section of "White Enamel."
