Hi Mike,
can you tell us something about the "out takes", please? (i hope, these question isn`t too indiscret). I know, Heathers "we are gonna die out here"-scene was originally longer...
Thanks

There are so many outtakes I don't remember them all! The first assembly of the film was somewhere around 8 hours -- that's just an assembly of everything that was shot -- no multiple takes included, so there was more left out of the film than left in. Most everything that was cut should have been cut -- it was either redundant, or it didn't play out as "real" or it took away from the pacing of the film. The cut sequence that most stands out in my mind is Mike's "confession scene," where he takes the camera alone and leaves messages to his family and friends, just like Heather did. Mike's scene was cut because it took emotional punch away from Heather's scene a dramatically both played for too long. Mike's performance was great in it, though, so that was a tough scene to lose. The orgy scene was certainly a tough one to edit as well, but it seems some enterprising filmmakers took their inspiration from that deleted sequence to make this: www.barewenchproject.com/

Hi Mike,
thanks for answering my question!
I wish, i could see the outtakes, especially the long confessions of Heather and the confessions of our little mikey!
To cut mikes confession was certainly a good decision, two confessions were to much for the "movie".

I hope one day that we will be able to put out a special edition of the film -- maybe on the 10th anniversary?!
I'd like to see a DVD version with the film transferred direct from the video tape, so it looks like the raw video. As it is now, they transferred the 35mm print (which was transferred from the video) back to video for the release. I think it should have been taken directly from the raw video so it would look much more immediate and maybe even a bit illicit.
Also, we have a feature length "making of" that was never completed, but it documents the entire process from preproduction all the way to the Sundance premiere.
There are quite a few other things that would be great additions as well. My hope is maybe we could put out a Criterion version of the movie.
BTW, the criterion version of the movie "Haxan" is a must see -- check it out if you haven't already!

This isn't a rumor or myth?

He's kidding. There was no orgy scene at the motel. There was, I believe, some drunken poetry reading by Mike and Josh but that's about it

Oh, okay I thought you meant that Heather, Mike and Josh had a 3 way, especially since they were getting really drunk in that scene. ;D
