This, as posted on the Elly Kedward FB page. I may let the post sit, I mat delete it as temporary. I haven't yet decided.
When making The Blair Witch Project, because the actors were in character 24/7, there was a code word set aside in the event they needed to break character for any reason. This code word was known as "Taco." The only time I can think of it being used was when the rain became so furious and overwhelming, they had to stop shooting, dry off and regroup the next day.
In this instance here, I am calling out "Taco" for a moment.
I am "breaking character" for a moment, just for today.
Not to post anything about Elly Kedward, not to post about mythology, a diary, a chapter, or anything related within her universe. Right now I'm posting as just the guy who made it.
...and it's not raining.
Though in times past it has, and to this day it still does at times. Especially at this time of year; a gentle rainfall of my own tears.
Many years ago, when I had already long begun Elly's story, my all-time greatest friend, brother in arms, brother in heart and soul, found the treatment and concept to her life fascinating. At the time it was only a loose treatment, ideas sketched out, leading in many directions. Some would stick, others would be pushed aside.
Many a day, and sometimes by many a campfire, he and I would banter back and forth on ideas. Over time this little story began to grow some legs.
After a while, putting these ideas to work, and validating every single minute detail, we realized we had created the life of this young woman in Ireland. And we called her EilĂs Abaigeal Kedward, more commonly known as "Elly Kedward." The woman you're all getting to know right now.
I only wish you could get to know my greatest of friends, and who contributed his own fingerprint to her story. A brother I would have given my life for. Or him for me.
...and that, unfortunately, he did.
On this day in 2012, Tom lost his life, doing so for me, at my home. I'd rather not share the details, they're not necessary here. But what I would like to share, is my love for this amazing human being.
We all hug and love our family: our parents, our siblings, our children. We all hug and love our girlfriends and boyfriends, we all hug our wives and husbands.
We all hug our dogs and cats (and in my case, including horses and goats).
However, the next time you're with your best friend, your absolute closest friend, your "BFF" if you will, hug him or hug her. Let them know what they mean to you. Take a moment and let that moment not be passive, to not be taken for granted. Our limited time here on earth is just that... limited.
