Hey guys, new as a member after lurking here and there for years. Pleased to be here! I've been eyeing this Reddit post (https://www.reddit.com/r/BlairWitch/comments/576l4b/the_reflection_in_the_mirror/) and was quite disappointed in how little discussion it spawned, despite there being good screenshots. But I guess that's just a symptom of the overall desinterest in this movie. I'd love to hear your take on this, I think this is the right place! When seeing the movie in the theater (yes, I was one of those 7 people ), I thought that we caught a glimpse of the physical manifestation of the Blair Witch in the beginning/ending scene of the staircase chase. I think the movie has been out for long enough to write this without spoiler tags. James watches a video of a hectic and very claustrophobic scene. We hear grunting noises, heavy steps and the house seemingly moving. He rewinds to the frame of the woman in the mirror. And believes her to be Heather. Hence the group going for the trip and the time loop/warp and self fulfilling prophecy unwinds. Later, we see a creature in the woods multiple times. It was either Adam or Simon who said on Twitter that the creature was not the Blair Witch and hinted at it being Elly Kedward (due to the piece of lore this new movie added, Lane telling us of Elly not only having been banished from town, but hung in a tree via a makeshift rack. Explaining the physical appearance of the monster we see later). Everybody I spoke to said that the woman in the mirror was Lisa running away from Elly chasing her through Parr's house. The way I see it however, is that Lisa is indeed running from someone, but that it's neither the creature which made her run after James into the house, nor her own reflection in the mirror. I think that her camera picked up the reflection of whoever was chasing her. A scary looking raggedy woman with black hair and a black robe? Sounds just like the Blair Witch from the mockumentaries and the way crazy Mary and Heather's grandfather described her in the Blair Witch dossier book by Stern. So yes, I did see and read all that and am aware of the theory of the evil presence in the woods which the native Americans were already wary of. Here's how Elly Kedward was illustrated for the original movie. The opening scene is revealed to be one of the final scenes, further hinting at the manipulation of time and space by the presence in the woods, or "the Blair Witch". "She's right behind me" is what she says to James after finally running into him in the house. They run for the attic, facing a corner. What creeps into it after them later is Elly (the creature) again, not the woman seen in the mirror. I think this is what made many people say that the reflection showed Lisa and not another woman. So James got tricked into this and mistook Lisa for Heather? Either way, James was a dumbass. I'd love to hear your views on this! Who's the woman we see in the mirror? Is she really supposed to be Heather? Is it Lisa's reflection? Elly Kedward in her original form? Or is it "the Blair Witch"?

Welcome aboard I was going to add spoiler tags to this but decided to allow it as is. I suspect everyone that is going to see this has by now. It's long gone from the theaters. I think that's supposed to look like Heather. I see a white sweater and a hat. Looks like the image James sees during one of the lightning flashes in the house. Was that actually Heather? Beats me. I subscribe to the theory that the "Blair Witch" (whatever you think that is) can change forms and appears differently to different people. Mary Brown saw something different, as did Robin Weaver. Lane told the story about the stretched limbs and so that's what Lisa saw. James wanted to see Heather so that's how "it" appeared to him. The footage we see is Lisa'a footage. But I don't think we see Lisa in the mirror.

Thank you for the welcome! Exactly my reasoning. It came out in September, I believe, and is not being shown in theaters any more.
I absolutely do not believe this to be Lisa's reflection, either. In the theather I could have sworn this woman was wearing a beanie! Nice throwback, I thought. But rewatching it, it seems it's just black hair. Do you agree her eyes shine yellow? That also stood out to me back in then. When I saw this scene I immediately thought to myself "Holy cow, that is the Blair Witch. And we saw her within the first minute of the movie." Then was properly confused when Elly (or who I believe to be Elly) came into the picture later.
Are we sure that every time we see elongated Elly it's only through Lisa's camera? I don't know if this is true, but I read one comment somewhere that many people missed a scene with Elly, that she could already be spotted in the forest at an earlier point in the movie, lurking. Way before Lisa runs inside Parr's house after seeing her. IIRC, Robin Weaver, Mary Brown and Heather's grandfather all described the same woman. Long, black hair, scary looking woman in a black or gray robe. Her feet did not touch the floor. Then crazy Mary said she had fur all over her body.
I'd like to ask you something. If your theory holds up, and I don't see why it wouldn't, do you believe that Ashley and Peter saw her? I don't think we saw something through their camera. Could that be because they wholeheartedly disregarded the belief in the Blair Witch and this trip? After reading the Dossier, it became clear that Heather was feeling some kind of spiritual connection to Elly Kedward and thought that while yes, she is the phenomenon called the Blair Witch, she was falsely accused by the local children of bloodletting and witchcraft. The final scene of the Project however shows Mike facing the corner in Parr's basement while Heather gets bludgeoned(?). Parr would stab a child in his basement while another was facing the corner. Yet Parr is barely mentioned in the movie - If we want that info, we have to watch the mockumentary and read the Dossier. He is nothing but a footnote in the Blair Witch Project. The trio sets out for research about the Blair Witch, not to find Parr, his ghost, manifestation, someone doing the witches bidding (not unlike Lane) or another crazed killer out in the woods. So why is the original trio, or at least Heather and Mike, killed like Parr was involved?
And why on earth did they have to adapt the lore in this new movie? The witch looks so terrifying, if you see her, you will drop dead. Don't turn around! Stand in a corner like Parr is behind you. I thought that was unnecessary. Just like further dragging out (excuse the pun) Elly's original fate.

I don't think Ashley and Peter ever saw what was attacking them. Which goes against the "don't look at her and she won't hurt you" idea. Which was silly. That's a Parr reference that doesn't really fit. Rustin killed those facing the corner too. Didn't save anyone. Ashley and Peter were non-believers so even if they saw "it" they would not see what the others saw. It would be interesting to see what footage Lane had from the 5 days he and Talia were supposedly lost in the woods after they left the main group. Lane still had his camera with him. The only footage we see is what is at the beginning/end of the film. Bet there was a lot more. Wonder how his camera was still working after all that time. Or the drone for that matter. I suppose the time distortion could account for it. Maybe.
I'm thinking only Lisa saw that version of the creature. Just her camera.

Right. It was said that Parr had a child facing the corner while killing the other because he could not stand them looking at him. How on earth this ties in with the Blair Witch or this Elly monster not killing you when you are facing a corner or not looking at her (but looking at her through a camera lense is fine?) is a bit beyond me. Why did Elly run away after noticing she was being filmed by Lisa in the attic? Or why this corner facing (and child killing, if I remember Lane's comments correctly) took place in the attic and not in the basement. But anyway, neither Lisa nor James would have ever gotten out of that house (or forest) again. It's implied that Lisa started to believe the story? Everyone in the camp heard Lane's story about Elly being tortured and left for dead. Yet we only know of Lisa seeing her this way. I'm with you, Lane's footage would have been interesting.
I don't think the makers of this movie knew what they were exactly getting at. One plothole after another. I'd love to hear an explanation from them about what or who we see exactly in this mirror. I'd like to understand the intent behind this movie better. Well, other than $$. The entire movie is based on him mistaking his friend Lisa or a physical manifestation of the Blair Witch (in my opinion it's the latter) for his own sister. James does not understand that a woman who has been missing for 20 years, in a forest which seems completely void of wildlife, is probably not alive any longer... Be it because of a killer, the Blair Witch or really just getting lost and starving.
What the hell was he expecting to find there? Heather having a tea with the Blair Witch? Heather still being alive after becoming a survival pro who now lives as a hermit in Parr's house? Even if that reflection truly was meant to be Heather, WHO WOULD WANT TO GO AFTER THAT? That screams demon bitch, if you ask me.

Just rewatched it. Peter does see limbed Elly in his dead sequence before his last run.

This must be said. I love your username very much. Heather. This gallery was just posted on Reddit: imgur.com/a/wD8NDA must see! The first two screen shots took me a solid 5 minutes to look at before I saw it. I kept seeing a white blur, thinking it looked a bit like a mask. There's a greyish-white woman running right behind the tree on the very far right. Then we have the girl in the knit hat that I believe James(?) saw. Could be a Heather reference or downright meant to portry Heather. But in these screenshots of Lisa being chased up the stairs and catching a glimpse of someone in the mirror does look like the woman in the mirror is wearing a beanie. Just like I remembered in the theater. Kind of throwing my Blair Witch manifestation theory out of the window and making me ask myself whether the writers wanted this to be Heather chasing Lisa through the house. Elly obviously is seen later again. Unless the Blair Witch likes wearing beanies. That'd be cool, too.

Not just the hat, Heather's also wearing that sweater in the final scene of The Blair Witch Project. Nice attention to detail.

Unless the Blair Witch likes wearing beanies. That'd be cool, too. Elly digs hats. She's got quite the collection. Probably why she went after H M and J. She wanted the beanies. And Elly gets what she wants

Nice thread. Anyone care to tell me what we're seeing in pictures 3 and 6 though? Picture 3 looks like Ashley behind some branches while picture 6 looks like a hand reaching out from a behind a wooden wall?

I just joined this forum and I've been nerding out over the lore implications that this movie presents, so here are my thoughts; I think the person in the mirror is indeed Heather and the weirdness of both the BWP and BW endings is due to them happening at the same time. The characters from both films are convening in the house and experiencing the story's climax simultaneously in a time warp entirely controlled by the witch.
The woman seen running through the house is Heather running through the house at the end of the first film (or possibly trapped in the house's time warp like Lane). The ghostly woman seen flashed in the lightning in the bedroom is also Heather, the time is just manipulated in a way that seems like she's only there for a moment from James' perspective. This is the same thing that happens with Peter in the corner of the room; it appears that he vanishes but time is actually being manipulated from a moment that he was in the corner to a moment that he wasn't.
Since the witch is apparently able to loop and replay events, I would even say that the voices heard by the characters might actually be real (as opposed to tricks/hallucinations) and the witch is just momentarily replaying those events. I think the time warping can account for all of the ghostly/spooky encounters except for the long limb monster, which I still don't have a sound opinion on.

The third one is Ashley in the tree reaching for the drone and 6 is Lisa's hand as she picks up Lane's camera in the basement. I think. The last few? SlenderWitch? Actually... in picture six I think I see two hands there. Is Elly reaching for it too? There is a "Blair Witch Arm" credit at the end of the movie. I s--t you not. Look:

Y'know, I didn't enjoy the new movie much but seeing these screencaps actually impresses me. I might watch it again –– even though I didn't care for the sound design I do appreciate Elly's look w/ the long limbs, lol. And I like the idea that James spotted Heather because it really goes hand in hand with the 'time travel'/Josh's voice theories from the original film. I totally think the witch is capable of messing around w/ that sort of thing, whether Heather was really there or she manipulated Jame's into seeing it that way. It'd be such a nice tie in and it just seems eerie and unsettling (which...I think Blair Witch is kinda lacking, at least for me.) Either way is cool and just as plausible.

I think that's exactly what they are. I did read about it on the internet, but couldn't recognize anything in the theater. Especially the one titled "Heather at the very hand".
