I personally would just like to see the pre-executive cut of the film. For better or worse, it would be interesting to see how the director intended it, and if that meant media clips in the beginning, Frank Sinatra songs, and weird imagery involving owls, then it'd be worth it to see just how much Joe Berlinger's film had going for him before Artisan clamped down on his work.
Though I do imagine that a good alternate title for it could be "The Blair Witch Obsession," considering the intended premise of the dangers of extreme fandom. Would make for a good pair-off with the original "Blair Witch Project" (and if you can indulge a little preemptive renaming of the new film, "The Blair Witch Encounter" to go with the up-to-eleven supernatural occurrences).

This movie is absolutely incomprehensible. I've been over it so many times. A directors cut wouldn't help. I think they intended it to just be a generic horror film but at the last minute threw Blair witch in.
We'll be having a premiere of the shadow edition this weekend.

Actually Berlinger was pitching a whole other movie when Artisan thought that, "hey this dude might be perfect for bw2". Only he didn't do Paradise Lost, he did a pretty generic horror movie (which style and execution I like) which really was about the phenomenon, like bwp, where the line between fact and fiction are blurred and what the result of that could be.
If you cut out the mockumentary beginning and the journalist at the end you cut out a lot of what bw2 was all about. It also helps set up the story which, even for a sequel, needs to stand on its own.
The Blair Witch Hunt would be a proper title that follows the title of the original.

It doesn't matter what it was "supposed to be about" because what it was supposed to be about was stupid and confusing.
All that matters is the character's journey through a major mindtrip until their final doom. That's it.
No pop culture/town interview bs, no stupid press coverage at the end. And a whole helluva lot of unnecessary things cut out along the way with part of the remaining content literally re-arranged.
Then, and only then, would BoS be somewhat awesome.
Even Berlinger's vision was off a bit. Better than the studio's cut of course, but still off a bit.
I will get my version edited out someday. Some far away day.

I've always said I'd like to see a director's cut but at this point, you have to think that any cutting room footage is long gone.

It doesn't matter what it was "supposed to be about" because what it was supposed to be about was stupid and confusing. That is your opinion. I think that the sequel took and interesting turn (for better or for worse). I guess there is a demand for two versions of bw2: 1. The director's cut. 2. The "character's journey through a major mindtrip until their final doom."-cut. One question remains; will "the shadow edit" be the nr.2 cut that some people have been waiting for...

nr.2 cut? I don't have anything to work with besides what's already there.
By the way in the movie there is an obvious editing screw up they never fixed. Which is in no way a surprise that they missed it. And it's made worse by the continuous music which means they didn't even catch it while mixing the music in.

cropsy, the character's journey alone blurs the line between fiction and reality.
Therefore the pop culture/town interview and the media coverage at the end is unnecessary. Yes. My opinion.

Anarchist, what moment would that be?

When Tristen is asking Erica about her parents. A shot goes from her not having the beer in her mouth to it jump cutting to it being there. It's not my edit, or a DVD rip problem. It's there.
I've gone back and fixed minor audio pops because I couldn't stand it. They let this one go. Good thing I cut it out of the edit.

I was thinking that the main theme would have also worked fine with the forest intro.
It's the music that plays while they're driving to Jeff's place after the hospital and during the witch's dance video footage.
But then again maybe not. Hell, I don't know.

the hell is that?
Oh and cropsy, the fan-edit you posted is basically the Director's Cut already. Which is okay but still flawed. The fan editor went by the director's vision as described in the DVD commentary.

Is that clip from your final cut?
Is it the very start of your entire movie?
If so I just wanted to point out that we can see Heather for a millisecond at the start of it.
Please share when ready. I promise to make no rude comments to you about it because I know you spent a lot of time with it.. and with BoS I know how much that can hurt.
