Blair Witch wins. There's no argument here.

I don't understand the appeal of Paranormal Activity. I'm like one of those people who hate The Blair Witch Project but for Paranormal Activity.
There's no story. "A girl is followed by a demon." That's the whole premise. The Blair Witch Project has a deep engaging mythology behind it. Something you have to research. Which I suppose can be used against the movie, having to look outside of it to get the whole story, but at least it's more interesting than Paranormal Activity. And there's nothing scary about jump scares, they're just annoying.
RedLetterMedia's review of Paranormal Activity 4 sum up my views pretty well on the whole series, but warning, there are jump scares in the review:

PA is all about sitting through a bunch of jump scares in between lots of static shots of empty rooms with nothing happening in order to get to the last 2 minutes of the film when something weird happens and then it's OVER. I liked the first one. But the sequels suck. Because they are BORING. Three movies of the SAME THING. Yet they make money. TBWP set the bar pretty high. It's the standard that every found footage movie is compared to. And none so far have reached it in my opinion. PA1 came close. But the Blair Witch still rules

Yeah, the first one was good, but even then, the trailer spoiled EVERY single scary part except for the one at the end. My experience watching it was mostly, "When does the next thing I saw in the trailer happen? Okay, there it is. Next." This is why I usually avoid trailers in general, but that one was particularly annoying.

Don't you hate it when trailers show too much? All the best bits? I don't want to know everything I'm going to see up front. Then what's the point of watching?
